Thanks that was helpful. I saw some fanvids and it felt... Strange. Like a BL that has been censored to death and I was right. Will avoid because stuff like that just frustrates me.
I think most of us hear totally dig a good "enemy to lovers" story. It is one story trope that I especially dig in fanfiction. Never heard of "Sotus", so thank you. "Her Private Life" is already on my TBW list =).
I absolutely HATE "It's Okay Not To Be Okay". I only saw three episodes before I dropped the show, so I didn't realize that the older brother was meant to have Autism. I just thought that he was simply mentally handicapped. Regarding bitchface aka female MC, if I read the comment section correctly then it turns out that she does in fact NOT have ASPD at all.
Not happy. Looks like KDrama is being americanized and that is not good. What I live about KDrama is that in 99% of the cases a full story with a proper ending is told. I don't need shows that go on endlessly, and end with a whimper because no one gives a damn about the show anymore (I just read that Criminal Minds has finally bit the bullet last year. The show should have been killed off years ago)
I just dropped the show. I don't care that apparently so many people like it, I absolutely hate it. Unlikable characters, a lovestory that doesn't deserve the name and a story that couldn't keep me either engaged and interested. The sin I mentioned first weighs the heaviest though - I effin hate both MCs.
Thank you so much for this article! Really cool. In the beginning I was like " should I know him" and then you mentioned that he sang the OP for "Word of Honor"! Looove the OP, really do. I wish him the best for the future.
Okay, I will give this show a couple more episodes to improve but currently I am seriously not impressed. This is the kind of shit Americans and Brits currently totally dig (Euphoria, I May Destroy You...) but I really hate shows like these. Neither MC is likeable. Some say that the female MC is so cool and fierce. She is simply your average tsundere featured in Animes like Gossik and Toradora. All in all...very unimpressed but like I said, I will give this a few more episodes.
Its actually really hard to rate this show because if i were to watch it without knowing the novel was originally…
I am now at episode 4 but I can already agree with you. The only thing that keeps this show interesting for me so far are the two main leads but the script is awful and the effects are awful. I have started reading the book but I will see how long I will be able to keep on watching before I am either bored out of my mind or utterly exasperated.
Well, everyone is entirely entitled to their opinion. Just from my profile picture, you can guess to what particular section of fandom I belong to ^_^ but hey no reason for you to love either Untamed/Mo Dao Zu Shi or Word of Honor/Tian Ya Ke (though a bit of a tragedy IMO). There are a lot of popular shows that I can also not get into and that I think are either boring as hell or just annoying (and popular actors that absolutely do nothing for me). One thing I can agree on is the problem with Korean shows and how they end. The final episode (sometimes the last two) is often truly bothersome and just plain annoying. It is obvious that the story has been told and it is over but they have to drag it out for another one or two episodes thereby pretty much ruining their own perfect landing. It is hard for me to remember a single show where the last episode did not feel like padding and they usually end the same way (time jump...always those time jumps).
I know that this is not even remotely on the same level as Word Of Honor and I know that Youku received a lot of criticism for completely neutering the BL story but I will still give it a try because I have to get off the mountain... eventually 😂
Again underwhelmed. This story had a lot of potential and the ideas of monos was interesting. I also thought they could have done so much more with the subplot involving his mother and aunt but the story meandered around with precious little happening. I thought it was interesting that it was revealed that JooHan has a condition which doesn't let him recognize any face except for Jeon Woo. Those two are meant for each other. The chemistry between the two leads was yet again awkward but this time around and for this particular story it worked, because Jeon Woo was never in love before and him being shy and awkward was believable. Quite frankly, the biggest problem of all Korean BL shows, this one included, is their length (or better - lack thereof) . Not enough episodes to truly develop a decent story and characters and the episodes themselves are much too short. At this rate Korean BL will always be the poor man's choice compared to China and Taiwan (and sometimes Japan)
I am a simple girl. I see Gong Jun so I click ^_^, though I have to admit that the only show with him that I am interested in (next to Word of Honor - for me currently THE ultimate Chinese romance show - even beating The Untamed (sort of....not really...maybe ...not sure)) is " Love Lost In Times" for obvious reasons ^_^
is this BL or bromance? I just finished The Untamed and someone on the internet recommend this one for me
Absolutely BL. The Untamed was watered down enough that people who are uncomfortoable with LGBTQ content could overlook all the very obvious hints but it is much, much harder in WoH. I am so effin' happy that they were able to get away with so much. It is a LOT more and a lot more obvious then in The Untamed.
I have a gigantic problem with HiStory 4 - one of the couples is adorable and very watchable, while the other is utterly deplorable . There is no way to say it any other way. I have no problem with the stepbrothers in love ( I am shipping Thorki , so of course I am fine with it) but Yong Jie is an utterly disgusting and terrifying character - not only does it start with seriously creepy stalking - nope we also have non-con sex while his brother is drunk and passed out and he makes pictures of it...I mean WTF? Really I cannot get past that and it completely ruins the whole show. I will keep on watching for the other couple but will fast forward anything that has to do with the two brothers, This show would have been better if it had concentrated only on Teng Teng and Li Cheng.
