Title Queen Woo
With those cast line ups, we need more than 8 eps!
What’s with kdramas nowadays with only 12 eps and less:(

Tell Me That You Love Me has complete power over me. Jung Woo Sung's expressions and the way he uses his eyes…
Both Jung Woo Sung and Shin Hyun Bin touch my heart with their expressions without saying a single word. I like ‘telepathic’ understanding like this. It’s so nice to watch.

I think you mistook him for someone else. He didn’t appear in Twinkling Watermelon.

Title Tell Me That You Love Me Spoiler
“Moeun, you reached out to me when I wasn’t aware that there was a fire. So if something happens and you need my help, let me know. Whatever it is and whenever you need me, I will come to you. But you should enjoy good things with someone else. Someone that you don’t have to be so considerate towards. Someone comfortable to be with and who’s a good match for you.”

THE WAY I CRIED. This drama, the way the cinematography creates a mellow mood for it, feels like a poem.

Why do people think that movies must be all happy stories and have happy ends? Movies are stories on screen and…
Around 99% of my top kdramas (and shows/movies in general) either have a sad ending or just have a really sad tone in general. I’m not against happy endings, but I do think a lot of the HEs in kdramas I’ve watched tend to be superficial. And kdramas with reasonable SEs tend to give the most emotional impact, which I attribute to my high ratings.

lol even besides that kdramas esp romance ones are not brave enough to make lead characters to do some f***ed…
that’d be quite makjang like many K-melodramas from the early 2000s and early 2010s. If that’s the case, hopefully they’ll do it in a way that won’t reach my frustration tolerance limit.

Title My Demon
I’m sorry but True Beauty is nowhere near the level of My Demon. It sure is cliché (like many blockbusters…
Okay I admit I got your intention wrong. I apologize. You are right about people starting to watch kdramas because of romance shows. I mean, kdramas do romance the best after all and got its rep for that. But I speculate it’s mostly Asian fans that get into this stuff more than those outside of Asia. Just go to any kdrama page online and you’ll see what I mean. Asian fans account for most of the kdrama watchers. When it comes to the popularity of K-romance outside of Asia however…it’s not really clear to me. It’s not like there’s data on it. I rarely encounter any non-Asians liking kdramas for the romance ones.

As for thriller, there was a huge flood of people getting into kdramas because of The Glory and Squid Game. This is how I know Kdramas have truly gone global, to the point where it feels like the people who watched these dramas might not even consider them as kdramas. They are different from any other popular ones. Just because you haven’t seen anyone getting into kdramas because of the thriller dramas doesn’t mean there’s none. I have interacted with tons of people across social media who said they started because of The Glory, because of Squid Game, because of AOUAD, because of Sweet Home, because of Extraordinary Woo Young Woo. These shows were definitely many times more popular than True Beauty. I have never seen people go this crazy for kdramas and say good things about it.

And I don’t even like My Demon that much. But True Beauty is definitely far worse, as far as production quality and storyline go. It’s overrated and frankly just not good.

And True Beauty got a lot of haters tbh. It shouldn’t be that overrated.

I fully read your comment. If it wasn’t your intention then you should have given a better example than True Beauty. On the side note, I do see where you’re coming from. It’s shows like My Demon that sell well due to popular cast + relatively high budget besides the tropes.

However, there are non-cliché shows like The Glory & Moving that do extremely well as well. While they’re not something new, they still have different concepts that diverge from the typical romantic tropes we have usually seen in the past being the formula for a blockbuster kdrama - which means kdramas have gone far on the global stage and are now releasing stuff that targets a more global audience outside of only Asia. I don’t think Korea just wants to limit their series to only romance (though they specialize in it). They want the world to know there is always something for everybody - romance, action, crime, thriller, horror, psychological, you name it. Shows like Sweet Home, All of Us Are Dead, The Glory, Squid Game are proofs of this. And they are all HUGE global blockbusters that have introduced many people to kdramaland.

PS: also it’s kdramas not jdramas.

True. Just like the way the plot for the Korean remake of The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (I forgot the OG title) was slightly changed to keep it as non-controversial as possible. With how most Kdramas are, I hope this remake also won’t take that toxic route that the 1995 OG did. I’m loving the aesthetics so far so I’m praying it won’t break me lmao

I'm convinced that many people will start watching kdramas bc of this considering it also top 10 in several countries…
I’m sorry but True Beauty is nowhere near the level of My Demon. It sure is cliché (like many blockbusters are) but it’s got the cinematography, good acting & chemistry between the leads.

There are not that many kdramas I wanna watch since 2020 but I instantly fell in love with this show with its scenic shots and slow burn, healing countryside aesthetics.

I hope the rest of the show will be just as good as the first 2 eps because so far, I’m getting the feeling that it has the potential to become one of my favourite romantic kdramas. I’ve been craving a GOOD romance with nice cinematography like this lately🤞
