Well, I assume HW didn't have any contractual obligations towards Soonyang at that time, and was got stuck in an actual murder case and hence recorded the calls in case he was framed. However, he was bribed with an opportunity at SY and fell for it. He still kept the recording out of guilt, and according to his soliloquy at the end, imo HW felt the repentance at the end after living JDJ's life and realizing that it had its own hardships. Also, secretary Kim didn't hang up because what could a "high school graduate" do to him, especially when he was backed by the chairman of SY? IMO it was poetic.

I don't get why people hate the ending, this show had the most solid last 2 episodes, and the finale was the best shit I've ever seen like people hoping for 'happy' 'rosy' endings yikes.

technically, it was foreshadowed in ep1 when JDJ's mother was discussing about the 3% stock, so them using it for the 'first' time was bait.
