FL dislikes SML so the scenario you describe can't happen anyway, she already has ML on her mind all the time right now. She's already acting like his gf even if they're not official yet.
When they officially get together it'll get even better, she puts in as much effort as him and as I said she falls even harder.
The little group of classmates (+SML) only represent mental shackles that she'll be free from soon, these people reminds her of past trauma.
They have followed the novel quite fine until now so there is no reason that will change.
Again, this will 100% be one of the best couple this year. They'll be great together and face everything together.

Don't worry about our FL, when the main couple gets together their relationship will be untouchable, we'll get plenty of skin ship and romantic moments.
SML is basically a weight that she'll drop soon anyway, there is no feelings left .. he's not even a second thought.
I wouldn't even call what she had with SML 'love', she had to constantly be careful with her words, feeling miserable, getting shit talked and humiliated by him. She was young, it was her first crush and it left her with trauma that she's still slowly healing from, that's it.
Even right now you can already see how much the ML is on her mind, she's already in love unconsciously she just hasn't realized yet.
ML makes her feel safe and happy and SML makes her feel uncomfortable and miserable .. it's night and day.
It takes a bit of time for the main leads to get together but when they do it'll be FIRE and they'll face any hardships together (she falls just as hard as the ML)
The drama has been pretty good at adapting the novel so it should continue that way, this will be one of the best couple of the year, guaranteed. Both ML and FL are smart and communicative, none of those misunderstandings bullshit.
