First k-drama that started it all? Stairway to Heaven. I remember I was around 10 when it was dubbed in Vietnamese. I saw my parents watching it on the t.v. and decided to join them. I remember being fascinated at all the makjang (let's face it, we all were at first). I scrambled to watch more and more k-dramas, thus starting my k-drama addition. Today, I am able to appreciate dramas the way they should be -- quality is important once you've watched over 100 k-dramas.
Why do I watch k-dramas? It takes me to a different world. Like a fantasy or a dream. I appreciate realism, but I don't believe the majority of us watch k-dramas for precisely that reason. We would settle for documentaries if that's all we wanted to see. I want to be able to experience the feels that come along with some of my favorite k-dramas -- the falling in love, the action-packed scenes, the talent bursting from actors, the gravitas that a juicy plot can muster up, or maybe just some light-hearted laughs.
I admit to finding solace in k-dramas and especially the k-drama community because we just click. I dream that when I am 80 and laying on my deathbed, my last few moments on earth are spent eating a nice, warm bowl of noodle soup while watching an episode of the King 2 Hearts.
