The book is the original story. It's rough in some ways. They tried to adapt the series and the film from it, with more or less success. Anyone who has read the books will not be surprised by what happens in the series and the film. Plus, it's easier to understand everything you've seen. If someone has not read the books, then e.g. the movie is a bit difficult to understand because it doesn't cover certain details. Someone either likes what they read or they don't. I liked the books, not an ordinary BL story, that's for sure. The series was also good and the movie is also watchable if you know what is happening and why.
It's a shame that it's only a movie, because it would be worth making it into a series... It follows the original novel quite faithfully (with some minor differences). I really liked it, but unfortunately it was not possible to condense the story into that much time. The actors are quite good, although the actor who played Gear was a bit of an interesting choice...
