what do you mean no change of characters....you said you watched full Donghua upto episode 158...then you must olready know that new characters have appeared when Han Li ascended to Star Palace/Scattered Sea of Stars

Characters are bound to change as long as they follow Donghua/Novel.

If they confirm Season 2 some new character will appear such as Wang Ning(ziling), yuan yao, siyue, silver moon, as well as HanLi's concubine Mu Pieling and many more that includes Elder Lui(jinkui) and some nascent soul antagonists
