Seen 15 episodes and I slept through most of them. I really miss the very interesting cases they had in season one. The second season is slow burn and many episodes are unnecessary imo. Their clothes for that era also seems off. I'm glad they kept the cast but the story and pacing is really boring. It's one big case so I guess they will drag the episodes. Really disappointed with S2. I loved season 1 and will always cherish it.
I also noticed how predictable everything became after a few episodes. You could almost guess the next plot twist or emotional beat. The villains’ motives weren’t clearly written, the side plots didn’t add much, and there were so many flashbacks that it started to feel repetitive. By the end, there wasn’t much of an emotional payoff. No moment that really stayed with me.
It’s not that the show was terrible. It just didn’t leave a lasting impression. Once you finish it, there’s really no reason to rewatch it. No hidden details, no deeper meaning. It's just a story that could’ve been something more but didn’t quite get there. I've seen a lot of Liu Yuning's dramas and if I had to compare, A Journey To Love stood out so much for me that until this day I can't forget that drama.
The generals in TPOB reminded me of his friends in AJTL as they were the comic relief, too, but their story development was much better in that drama.
The actors aren’t bad. In fact, some performances are genuinely decent but the drama itself feels like a missed opportunity. The story had potential to be sharp and suspenseful, yet it gets bogged down by too many unnecessary scenes involving the generals. Those sequences drag on and take away time that could’ve been used to build up the villains or deepen the central mystery.
The script is also just average. It follows predictable beats and rarely delivers any truly gripping dialogue or surprises. Even the romance, which could’ve added emotional depth, feels flat. There’s little real tension or chemistry between the leads, making it hard to stay invested.
Visually, it’s fine but nothing stands out enough to make it memorable. Once you’ve finished it, there’s not much reason to go back and rewatch. It lacks that spark or emotional pull that makes a series linger with you. I think it's because I've seen too many idol period romance dramas. This doesn't stand out.
In short, The Prisoner of Beauty isn’t terrible, it’s just forgettable. And that’s perhaps the biggest disappointment of all. And I like the actors. I just think the writing is average.
I give it a 5. After a strong start, the show lost direction. The narrative became repetitive or cluttered with subplots that distracted from the main storyline. Momentum dropped, and emotional stakes faded.
The early episodes had a strong thriller or mystery energy, but the later ones swung between melodrama, romance, and political intrigue without balance. It felt like the show didn’t know what kind of drama it wanted to be.
The romance felt shoehorned in like the writers added it for convention’s sake rather than because it served the story. It diluted the drama’s core focus and made emotional beats feel forced instead of earned.
The leads just didn’t click. Their interactions lacked spark, which made the romantic tension unbelievable. What could’ve been a compelling partnership ended up feeling stiff or mismatched in tone.
Supporting roles that could’ve added depth were sidelined or given shallow arcs, making the world feel smaller and less dynamic over time.
By the finale, plot resolutions felt rushed or convenient. The writing didn’t match the nuance of the opening episodes, so the payoff felt unsatisfying.
A much better espionage / political K‐drama for me is The Veil. Romance is present but not overbearing; focus is more on suspense, internal political/agency corruption, and the mystery of who can be trusted.
I kind of like this show lol The Queen has this fierce look like she isn't afraid of anything (she hides it well) and I like that. No, she isn't stiff. It suits her role. I also like how she's equal to the King in power. I didn't recognize Chang Wook at first but he played the king really well, my gosh! LOVED him. And I was blown away by Lee Soo Hyuk being a murderous psychopath. Wasn't expecting that lol So far the actors are playing their parts really well. I like the power struggle and politics of this show, which is why I love historical dramas. They're always so interesting especially if the writer/director/editor do a fantastic job. People complaining about the R-rated scenes... just skip it then? I kind of laughed when someone talked about "violence against women" when there was that one K-drama I just saw a few weeks ago where the female was a killer. How come nobody cried for "violence against men"? And then they rated it really high LMAO. People really do have double standards. Idk I like the story of Queen Woo and the cast. I give this 8.5
Korean content always had violence and sex. This is nothing new. Check out handmaiden, a frozen flower etc. Just…
I actually like House of the Dragon S1 and S2. I disliked Game of Thrones from S4-8 (8 being the worst). Having said that, I'm not hating on Queen Woo. I actually like the story and the actors. I was already aware this was Rated-R and gave it a go anyway because I'm an adult and I like historical dramas. If you took away the R-rated scenes, this show still stands.
Six episodes in and it's just a repetitive vicious cycle, the plot hardly progresses. It teases you which characters have something to do with the deaths of the two female teens but everyone is still blaming Jeung Woo lol So yeah I don't like the pacing / editing, directing of the show. I know what it's trying to get at but it's not delivering it in a way to make it suspenseful. In fact, it just makes everyone so annoying and not giving the lead character to prove his innocence. That one cop is starting to warm up to him but it's taken so long that I've lost interest. 14 episodes is too long and that six episodes was a waste of time.
When people start gaslighting a show that's mediocre, that's when you'll know it isn't THAT great. I still LOVED season 1 more than season 2. This season was a mess and I wasn't impressed by the editing, pacing, and the director. I don't have a problem with the actors that much. I just didn't like the plot and story-telling style. I just wished they kept the magic from Season 1, which I enjoyed. It was painful for me to watch this season. There was absolutely NO joy in it.
This has to be one fo the dumbest thrillers I've ever seen. I'm going to give it a 3. I usually like Go Min Si's dramas but this one wasn't my favorite. The editing was horrible and the director was trying to be edgy but it's as messy as the jar of tomato sauce smothered in spaghetti. This isn't a show where I'll be excited to talk about in the next couple of months. In fact, I've already forgotten about it. Waste of time, and waste of talent. It's below mediocre for me.
There is something terribly wrong with the editing of this series. It's also slow-paced and I'm so tired of everyone accusing, yelling, and physically abusing Jung Woo. I’m inclined to believe he’s innocent of course. I just hope more people will believe and help him prove it. Just about everyone in this town is a possible suspect. I give it a 5 or 6 at best because I'm not thrilled with the pacing. Also, everyone is annoying and I feel sorry for the main character.
I finished this series a week ago and I must admit that season 2 is even better! I can't wait for season 3 to be honest. There's just more mythical/mystical creatures this time around and I really like the cases this season. I thought the last case they did was really good, which made the team in tears when they learned what the kid wrote in the book :( I also liked the second case about the coroner. I can't wait for them to do MORE cases next season! This and Heroes are my favorite C-dramas this year!
Season 2 is as good as season 1. I'm not disappointed at all and I'm very happy they got all the main cast back. The cases are good and I'm wondering if there will be a season 3. This drama and "Heroes" are so far my faves this year. Good job cast and crew!!!
I was very dismayed with S2 of Joy of Life, which is why it's not in my top drama list for 2024.
I feel like the writers of the show really HATE Jing lol I HATE how they made him weak all throughout when he could have stood up for himself at LEAST once. In this season, it started with everyone just miserable with their partners. It really dragged.
After watching like 2/3 of the show I don't feel any empathy for our main character, Fan Xian, because I know he's going to be all right in the end. In S1, however, the poetry recital contests and his journeys were quite enjoyable to watch and I sympathized with him when he lost Teng and when got stabbed in the back in the season finale. In S2, he's just beginning to understand the power play and corruption of the imperial system and foiling the plans of the antagonists. However, he's also backed up by powerful individuals so I'm not really anxious about what's going to happen to him next. He comes from a privileged background so he doesn't have to worry about food or clothes or shelter. He's not going to be the next emperor (unless they change the storyline but I doubt it because they introduced the third Prince in S2), but I'm sure he will end up in a position of power or some sort (and more wealth) by the end. He will have a network of spies and shadow masters working for him, and will be the most powerful person in the shadow/underground. He's really lucky to have Chen Ping Ping by his side. I'm just not a fan of the pacing and narrative in S2.
Not sure why they made Fan Xian and Wan'er try on all those clothes when they were going to end up wearing red on their wedding day anyway :D I know it's to fill out more episodes and to add some sort of comic relief but yeah... FINALLY they're married.
It’s not that the show was terrible. It just didn’t leave a lasting impression. Once you finish it, there’s really no reason to rewatch it. No hidden details, no deeper meaning.
