I loved and hated this drama, the romance was great but the realism made it such a tough watch. I read an interview with Son Yejin describing this as a realistic melodrama, which I find pretty accurate, and she also said described her character as "immature", something I tried hard to ignore at first but it's the sad truth. At the end of the day, her character's got no backbone, but she's also very much the product of her environment and what happens when you grow up with a mother like hers (forever tied to a bunch of conservative/outdated unhealthy views), you just end up "stuck". There's a reason this show was well recieved by the Korean public, I think a lot of the things portrayed, no matter how frustrating, struck a chord with them.
is this just copy and paste of "just between lovers"!!!!!?
Nah, accident vs murder is enough to set a very different tone. And two people linked together by a tragic event since their younger years and coming together as adults isn't exactly exclusive to JBL either.
The first time I read the plot on asianwiki (which has more details than the description on here), I was hesistant to give this a try because it sounded so "messy", but so far so good. First 2 episodes were very well done. I love the tone that's been set, you can definitely feel a great sense of thrill by the end of it. Solid cast, too. This is looking very promising, can't wait to see where things go.
I watched the edited version first and the extended version for my second viewing, and I suggest everyone to watch the extended version instead if they ever get that option. It has extra scenes between the two main female leads that may seem somewhat mundane or insignificant, but I felt like those small moments provided more insight into why they felt so close and attached to one another, and showed how their intimacy wasn't just physical. If anything, I wished the movie explored their relationship more.
Other than that, everything was just really great. Amazing revenge tale, I was thoroughly entertained and glued to the screen the whole time. Excellent casting from main leads to supporting roles. Park Chan Wook did it again.
FIY, this movie was R-rated for a reason. You're better off watching it alone.
Knowing that this was based on a true story makes me sick to my stomach, and I've been having trouble shaking this movie off. Chun Woo Hee was wonderful. Don't think I can truly "rate" this.
This movie kinda fell flat to me. There just wasn't enough to make me understand and believe the characters and their actions.
I liked how the main lead's relationship with her boyfriend was portrayed, it gave some nice insight into why she is the way she is. Wished there could've been more of that with the other characters. Idk if it was because they wanted to create a sense of mystery, and of course I don't expect to be spoon-fed a story, one needs to use their imagination too and actively participate themselves, but trying to keep the mystery up can sometimes lead to things being too vague. And that's what this movie felt like. It wasn't compelling enough, even with such a stellar cast.
