I thought they were both about 24-25, but yeah sometimes it can be cringe. maybe it's because the exaggerated expressions don't really translate that well from manga/anime to live action, but I don't mind that part too much. The being together in public moments, perhaps it's due to the culture or the fact that they're both men therefore "can't be close"? (which is dumb, I know)
If you meant the moment where he didn't want to kiss in public though, I thought it was obvious why: PDA is a no-no + Kanade is not exactly "confident gay" and cares about what others think
