I agree with all of this, even though I gave this a 7 for enjoyablitiy. It was fun overall but yeah, their choice of making this mid-way historical mid-way silly rom-com winking at modern times made it cringe more than once. I think most who aren't used to watch serious historical dramas probably would not notice, but that middle ground really bothered me at times. The story had a good premise and it could have been so good if they were a bit more serious about it. Like, I cannot stop being bothered by that scene where he spins her around to prove a point and gets really close to her face and suddenly a spotlight turns on?! Way to ruin the scene and the tension! So I blame the lack of chemistry mostly on the directing. The political plot?? Was weird. I mean killing potential queens off to make the kind crazy? Makes sense. Dragging it out for 7 years? There was no reason. The "main villain" was all "trust me I know what I'm doing" as he did absolutely nothing noteworthy or scheme anything noteworthy. He died in a dumb way too. But it wasn't the point of the story so yeah. If you manage to suspend your disbelief is an enjoyable drama! It's fun. But I also had trouble doing so more than once, hence my rating 😅
I agree with this review so much. bonghwan loved cheoljeong, has memories of that, of sleeping with him, having a baby with him, he didn't lose any of those when he woke up. he loved cj and cj loved him no matter what body he was in. they fell in love with each other's quirks, cheoljeong never loved soyeong for sy :( at the end with bonghwan leaving, she's left with nothing of what cheoljeong loved... is it sadder for bonghwan or cheoljeong? one is destined to have memories of loving someone who died 200 years before he was born, and the other spent the rest of his life loving the wrong person... like... WHAT TRAGEDY IS THIS
