1-Si eres de las que ves series solo por el aspecto fisico te recomiendo los lakorn, realmente los actores todos…
Not sure how you assumed I watched dramas from the 90s, since I didn't mention a single title. Out of curiosity I checked my profile and 70% of dramas I watched are from the time between 2005-2015. But I also gave J-dramas a try afterwards and those are some of the dramas I watched: 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made, Bow Then Kiss, Good Morning Call, Hana ni Keda Mono, Kuzu no Honkai, Nee Sensei, Shiranai no?, Shanai Marriage Honey, Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru.

And I see still the same issues. Granted that those titles are mostly simple, cute romcoms, so no expectations about revolutionary societal changes there... but still the same wooden acting, low budget effects, cringy exaggerated reactions, actors who look like regular people (and not god-like perfect celebrities in kdramas) - so compared to kdramas still very wide gap.

As a side note: I lived in Japan for couple years and just moved back to Europe this year, so I can say that bi parts of Japanese society and popculture in 2022/23 are still very conservative, unwilling to welcome foreign influences and improve inspired by it, which is perfectly represented in those j-dramas that didn't improve at all since ~2005 when I started watching them.

the FL was for most part annoyingly timid, so it was really great to observe her transformation later when she found her dream, she because more lively, more confident.
I really like how her mum summarized how she felt with him - like she's too ordinary, talentless next to such amazing person full of dream.
People complain that this story is not realistic... but well, other than asking suddenly a stranger to date you, just based on some romantic scene you witness I really liked how realistic the relationship development was there, and also the charater development. Gotta love JDramas for being less flashy and hollywoody ;) but more closer to real life. A little more difficult to watch than an average drama, but definitelly worth it.
Not to complain about lack of/artificial skinship here because for Jdrama standards it's almost porn... But still, how is it that we have bed scenes, where they are naked and still kisses feel like firstkisses of some innocent kids: no french kisses, almost no lips movement, especialy the FL was like frozen during the kisses. Why can't a Japanese women in a drama be passionate in her skinship? Super annoying.

It was literally the most annoying drama till ~5th ep. due to the behaviour and logic of FL. But to all of you who want to drop this drama at 3rd of 4th ep - please push through - afterwards it gets into one of the cutest, most beautiful, romantic stories, with great chemistry, great development, nice side-stories. First time ever I saw a drama take a 180 degrees turn from awful to so amazing.

Watched 3 episodes so far and I must say FL is by far the most female character woman I ever saw in any drama. Her behaviour, words, expressiveness, looks, every single expression on her face just makes me wanna punch her in it. I dislike her that much that when she got slapped by the older guy in 3rd episode I was almost happy.
I now there are some cultural difference, but still how can be normalized to hit a woman? And how can she say "I like you" still after that. this is just sooooo sick. I hate her character. I see people saying that after 4th episode she improves, but I'm not sure if anything can improve this character.

My first kdrama, will always have special place in my heart. I think I just got addicted from 1st episode and watched it all in 1 weekend.
On The Romance of Tiger and Rose Oct 4, 2020
Really nice drama, fluffy, with cute main couple with a really grate chemistry, with a normal, natural level of skinship.I really liked the comedy aspects and that unlike many cdramas the 2nd leads stories didn't take like half of the screen time. And absolutely in love with the ML and FL - they were both strong, confident, talented and beautiful, without beeing cheesy or artificially perfect. There was some drama coming from misunderstandings but compared to other dramas... very minimal. And the leads were not even a bit annoying - even when they were doing sth wrong, there was always some logic behind, some reason for the behaviour... no annoying plot, personality or development gaps. Really nice watch. And the ending... oh, totally wortwhile but not cheesy or too obvious.
On Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo Sep 28, 2020
Never understood popularity of this drama. ML here is the meanest, most arrogant guy ever, not even improving his behaviour later and he seriously mistreats and humiliates the FL all the time. Although the story generally is cute and FL is ok (although annoyingly stupid, as many things up to extreme level in jdramas...) I think such dramas should be forbidden cause they promote toxic relationships and make psychological abuse into something acceptable and kawaii.... Yandere is not cute in a relationship, it's abuse.

Is just a matter of getting used to it. I found Kdramas extremely irritating the 1st time I watched it. Each culture…
I think it's not so much being irritating as just popularising harmful stereotypes of toxic masculinity and submissive femininity. I never saw a female lead in japanese romance dramas, who was considered attractive but she was not kawaii, instead being, strong, confident and not relying on ML all the time.

I am an ex-jdrama fan and now more into k & c dramas. With a disclaimer that most of the dramas I watched were romance dramas, which exeption for some great mistery dramas, I must say I completely AGREE with:

1. The actors are better looking in K-dramas. --- Not necessarily better looking as people, but Kdramas DEFINITELLY putt more $$ into making them look more beautiful and just polished: better makeup, more diversified costumes, more modern-looking and handsome stylizations and hairstyle. At least all main & support leads from kdramas look like models staight from fashion show and not your regular people in the street. Some might not like it, but for those who come to dramas to enjoy the view, it's.
2. The acting in J-dramas is weird/ strange/ bad. - I'd not say bad acting, but definitelly not natural. Everything is emphasised too much - shy/silent person is acting like having people-phobia, polite, modest person is afraid to raise their voice in literally ANY situation, confident character is rude and aggressive and funny characters are just acting like VERY stupid clowns. This also has probably sth to do with the cultural differences and the favoured type of humor in japan: manzai (contrast of 2 people: 1 person is acting stupid, and the other, smart one is correcting them), or slapstick (extreme, even looking hurtful at times). Although I study Japanese culture for years already, as a European it's still something SUPER cringy. Plus as a woman I just CAN'T STAND seeing all those feeble, subissive female leads who have to act kawaii all the time. A strong (but not aggressive, or rude), confident, sexy female lead is almost never happening.

3. The cinematography in J-dramas isn't up to par with K-dramas. ---> you can just see there's completely different level of financing, money put in costumes, makeup, stilizations etc. and also camera work... in jdramas sometimes so awkward and distrubing, where is kdramas it's seamless.
6. Japan is not good at romance dramas.----> it is cultural, but they completely suck at skinship. Even for people in their 30s a kiss is just a peck on the lips, the FL is always this innocent girl with no experience, suprised and wide-eyed and paralyzed, not moving her lips, not breathing. It's just so fake, cringy and annoying. And also the devleopment of romance seems usually too childish, even for people in their 20s and 30s.

8. Japan is stuck in a time warp. ---> Yes, in many aspects:
- screenwriting - all those aspects mentioned above (unnatural acting, being afraid of skinship, no diversity in FL beeing anything else than kawaii girls, never a grown-up confident woman - come on it's 21st century, not 1950s)
- general low-budgeting feeling around the drama - in camera work, lightning, stylizations, sceneries etc.
- I agree that in the 90s jdramas seemed to be more popular, but then there was a huge international sucess of halyuu, as kdramas better address western taste (for the reasons stated above) BUT still Japan producers didn't make any effort to get back on the "throne" and try to appeal more to international audience. Japan filmmaking industry has no interest in winning over the international market, but focuses on Japan audience, and well - it shows.

and I disagree with:
4.The duration of the shows is too short. - I feel it's perfect, k and especially c dramas sometimes drag the story too much
5. J-dramas lack escapism and are too real. - no really, they seem too artificial to me
7. Too many idols in J-dramas. - kdramas have them too, and besides - I don't feel like the quality suffers when idol acts in jdrama.

Have you seen Hotel del Luna? If not, then you can watch it, I really liked it too. FL in HDL was also very strong,…
Thank you for recommendation. I absolutely adore IU so now I need to watch the Hotel del Luna just to see her in so many beautiful stylizations :) It would be nice to see her as a strong FL too

Title Suspicious Partner Spoiler
This drama is great, nice story (altough getting sidetracked too much for my taste, I guess they had to fill the 40 ep somehow), BUT the FL is like the most annoying ever: being so insincere with her feelings, so indecisive, hurting the ML saying it's for his sake.
And the lack of communication between ML and FL is really annoying too - they keep discovering things on their own, and are lying to eachother, staying silent... instead of working together as promised. And when finally the truth is out only the FL feels like she has been wronged, like - what? You also liked to him!!!
I started watching it for Ji Chang Wook - and he is great here, as always, but I feel this character is such a waste of his talent - he's ambiguous and not really anything special - not really very smart as a lawyer, kind of indecisive and weak as a boyfriend.

best. kisses. ever. wow.
Really? I was hoping they will be knowing Xing Zhao Lin in the eternal love, or I cannot hug you (soooo good kiss scenes) but her... ti was somehow mediocre, without any passion. Before this drama I also watched the "It's ok to not be ok" which i think had the most passionate and romantic kisses ever, so I was quite disappointed with this drama on kiss-level

redeem for what?did he do something bad?
I also feel like she was too understanding and forgave him too quickly e.g. the time when she was dealing with his family business got so busy adn didn't care much how she feels, she even fainted and got into hospital and after admitting her he didn't even visit her once...

I loved the ML and FL here. There were such interesting people, such depth of characters and really interesting development of their relation and their story. The ML had the nicest, warmest smile I've ever seen, and FL character was just priceless - first time I saw a strong, intense personality of FL at the same time being extremely cute in all her posed-aggression and screaming, really good drama. And she had one of the most beautiful stylizations from all the dramas that I watches so far. From her hairstyle, makeup, jewerly, clothing to heir nails... everything was such a beautiful princess-like perfect set.
