I've been so excited for this drama but it's so hard to get info on when (or if) they'll be any English subtitles! 😠I wish more Dramasettv shows would get posted with translations
amazing article! I've been a jdrama fan for 15+ years and still learned things. I really appreciate all the research that went into this. This made my want to rewatch 1 Litre of Tears for the first time ever too :( I think I watched it in 2008 and it's left such a deep mark on me. Time to stuck it up and watch the incredible story again.
I would recommend Liar Game, Rich Man Poor Woman, and Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto.
I am so in love with this list! I want to add Rainie Yang and Ariel Lin. Most of the time they sing for their own dramas but their OSTs always really make the drama for me. Della and Shi Shi are my new favorites
Thanks for the article! I started off my asian drama love with japanese and taiwanese dramas so they will always hold a special place in my heart. My first drama was Hanazakari no Kimitachi e actually because I really liked the manga. Then I never turned back. To me, jdramas are the best because of how realistic and heartfelt they are. I got into kdramas after a few years and I did like them, but it was a lot of the same stories to me. The only reason I stayed so long was because of the ease of watching. Getting legal sites for kdramas really spread the popularity in a way that hasn't happened with jdramas or even twdramas.
Some of my favorites are Nobuta wo Produce, Hana Yori Dango, Liar Game, and 1 Litre of Tears (even though it hurts me). I want to start a campaign for a paid jdrama streaming site or something lol. Maybe after all these years, the hold Japan keeps on it's entertainment has lessened a little bit to allow it! I mean, Arashi finally got onto social media and Johnny's are opening up, so almost anything is possible now LOL.
I love the article, thank you for writing about jdramas, they deserve more love. I think it's fair that, if we…
wow, you said all of my thoughts on my jdrama experience so perfectly! I got into jdramas around 2007/2008 so you're right, it was really hard to find subtitles for shows that were complete or not taken down. That was back when mysoju existed and like you said, you had to find secret pages for subtitles. (It's kind of still that way....)
I still love jdramas and the community that you talked about. It was certainly not popular back then and very hard to find good raws and subs. HJSplit was my best friend lol. But it's not really a way to grow the fanbase if that's the main way to consume them.
I do wonder what would've happened, if all those years ago, if instead of kdramas being spread if it was jdramas instead? What if japanese tv companies didn't hold onto their shows and dramafever was japanese based instead of korean? Who knows but I still hope people get into jrdramas more since the stories are so diverse and amazing.
This... was not a good drama. Everything felt rushed and overdramatic even for a Taiwanese drama. I loved the mob guys and Eugenie, but Jasper was just blah. I couldn't get him liking Eugenies character so much to throw everything away after 3 days of being together. Eddie Kim being a villain at the end wasn't believable either. We needed more but not split into another season. Just this one needed to be more developed.
I've been an Arashian since 2007 and honestly this is all so strange but exciting! I was part of those secret communities where it was hard to enter just to get media. I would just buy their CDs and wait weeks for delivery but now I can hear the same songs on Spotify instantly. Lol it's as if I'm talking about a group from the 80s not about something just earlier this year.
They have been a part of so many drama OSTs that I'm sure if you're into Jdramas, you've heard at least one. This is long overdue but I'm glad it's still happening!
I'm sad for the people in J&A since it looks like they all really loved him. Even if there's some public dislike, he did have a huge role in making a bunch guys achieve their dreams. Now....youtube videos?
Oh wow, this is my favorite type of article because it's about the dramas that really got me addicted to asian dramas. I started watching dramas in 2007 and Smiling Pasta was actually either the second drama I watched! Hanazakari no Kimitachi e was the first drama and I just never turned back. Surprisingly, I've watched all the dramas on this list except for Meteor Garden. I started dramas right when Hana Yori Dango was huge and coming out so I didn't think Meteor Garden could compare. Then I just was never able to find a good version of it. Still searching to this day haha.
I think all of my favorite dramas came from 2010 and before. It may be nostalgia, but those dramas just affected me so much more. Nowadays, these dramas make references to the oldies and I realize that I've really been in this community for so long! I really feel like the chemistry and storyline in the older dramas was just a lot better.
My favorites are Smiling Pasta, My Girl, Kimi Wa Petto, Hana Yori Dango, Love Contract, Nobuta wo Produce, My Lovely Kim Sam Soon, Goong, 1 Litre of Tears, It Started with a Kiss, Fated to Love You....I can never narrow it down but I'll stop lol
I saw Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Xi Men, and Mei Zuo picture clicked the article. This brings back so many memories.…
Smiling Pasta usually doesn't get included in the drama posts, so I loved the shout out! And I spent SOOOO many hours on mysoju, SMH. It was a dark day when that site went down lol
I’ve been watching kdramas for the past 10 years and I honestly prefer the newer ones compared to the ones in…
Honestly I still don't understand why boys over flowers gets so much love. Hana yori dango was better but even besides that, the kdrama was just lacking all over.
I would recommend Liar Game, Rich Man Poor Woman, and Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto.
