He knew what he was doing. No one grooms a minor by accident. KHS and KSR has a whole timeline between them and saying that he's not perfect and everyone makes mistakes is a failure to recognize the gravity of his actions because he approached her from a very young age. I don't know why someone would be near a child cause people typically hangout with others their around age, but it beats me I guess.
