When someone says sth negative about this drama, you accuse people of being disrespectful to the fans and actors etc but you have the audacity to say things like this.
I think you mean the Korean ratings when DWY airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays which is quite poor tbh. Average of 2.3 % domestic rating is quite disappointing.
Netflix, however, has a totally different algorithm. It doesnt give any numbers on how many people are watching a show or a film from start to finish. There are also so many people who watch an episode more than once :) Regardless of how its metric system works, DWY is a big success on the platform not only in Asia but also in the Americas as well.
She is already injured as she left the shrine. Stabbed even before she met Mu Jin on the hill? Did she cast a final spell before leaving the shrine? She is in white clothes… Mu jin is injured from the fight with god knows who to get hold of the wooden box. Poor souls…
Yeah i get what you mean, just wanted to give you another example of some questionable actions from her. The lazy writing & editing fails from the get-go are making this show difficult to be watched but hopefully they will end it in a good note, especially for the ones who are really loving it :)
With some small details they could have made many things more logical i guess. Like when Shin yu’s friend is at HJ’s door show us that he introduces himself on the ring video doorbell so we dont question her going out by herself to meet some stranger in the middle of the night :) The SML is asking her if she knows the guy, she replies : I dont think so. The next scene she is opening the door :))))
I’m not complaining but what was with watching him shower thru a little door window. Artistic, not.
Not artistic at all :) Technically speaking, camera angles, framing and camera movements are really problematic in this scene. The way the scene starts makes you feel like you are peeping through door:p implying some sort of voyeurism there maybe :))))) then some weird cuts & transitions:) as you said no purpose whatsoever.
I got to see Shin Yu so I have made my peace with the scene :p
Don't be too hard on me but I am here to complain:))) Instead of those huge grapes , they should have gone for a shower gel or a shampoo for product placement …. we could have had a longer shower scene :)
Although I have so many problems with this drama, ( I have mentioned them in an essay long comment so no need to repeat myself:p ) I like some little gestures of the characters. Such as Shin yu tending to keep his hand in his pocket. I think even in the intro there is an illustration of him with his hand in his pocket. ( the hand that was holding the knife that caused Aeng Cho‘s death ) I think that hand is giving him more pain than Aeng Cho’s bloody hand :( One question: the red hand seems a bit different than the FL’s hand. I think you are watching many BTS. Is it Jo Bo Ah all the time or someone else is also getting lucky to be close to Rowoon whilst filming :p )
The reason that I cannot watch an entire episode without skipping is that this drama keeps on stalling for time... After 7 or 8 episodes I am watching mostly the leads’ scenes ; my sore eyes need a sight and Shin yu is just the cure:)))
Here comes my problems with the drama: They leave so much room for assumptions or theories even after decisions had been made or actions had been taken by the characters. And having so many questions after episodes has nothing to do with the storyline being convoluted or anything. It is not Lynch’s Twin Peaks in the end:) It just doesnt add up most of the time. This drama is failing to create a full circle of events that satisfy and answer our questions whilst leaving us wanting more. Let's have a look at the spells. The main question is: do they work? We have seen 12 episodes and still we dont have an answer. You might say, we will find out in the end. But the thing is this is not a 2 and half hour long film. I should not be still wondering about this after I had invested 12 hours in this drama. It might have been better if they tried using dramatic irony by letting us know the answer to this question before our amazing Shin yu with his topsy turvy feelings or our so naive Hong jo know :))) What a silly idea to test the spells with that perfect skin spell. She already has a flawless complexion. How would they ever know? Cast the anti aging spell on the old lady shaman so if it works she can go to a concert to watch her Bangtan oppas instead of sitting on a bed all day and night long and relying on hong jo for a soju treat :P
Another problem I find is that something is off with trying to combine so many genres. The scope of the plot is just too narrow for such an attempt. Furthermore there is no balance between the genres ; abrupt transitions between scenes affect the overall experience of the drama. They dont give us anything about their past lives for a long time then we have 20 minutes long past live scenes. When your structure is non linear, you need to continuously provide backstory for your characters so that the audience can feel the character development. Destined with You lacks this basic rule. They are trying to create a mystery which is great to stimulate curiosity but those curiosity gaps have to be filled with information; this needs to be done when it needs to be done. We still have so many questions: Why is there a curse on this family? Who killed who and why? Do spells work or not? Why is the 2FL is working with the creepy florist? How much does the old shaman lady know about the curse? What does 2ML's relationship with his father have to do with the plot in general? etc etc There can be millions of answers to these many questions. The sad part is no matter what the answers are, they wont surprise or shock us. We will just end up saying : so that was it huh :) I am terribly sorry for such a long comment. I just expected so much from this drama, I dont hate it or anything.. I am just like a mother who knew her child had the potential to study at Oxford but ended up studying at an average university :))))) Hope that makes sense :)
