Even though he’s ruthless most of the times and sometimes reckless, but when it comes to his comrades, he is…
I love that this drama makes its characters feel so real. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen characters in other dramas do something borderline OOC because it was purely “for love”. People in love are still people with their own personalities. Maybe it’s just personal preference on my part, but someone willing to fight for someone at personal cost will always pull at my heartstrings more than someone willing to fight for someone no matter who dies for it. His love for CSS is deep, but it doesn’t make him any less of a general.

A thought that came to me, and I wanted to share: Many of commenters expressed their displeasure and disappointment…
I remember certain interactions with his aunt that makes me lift an eyebrow. Like when she was crushing that flower without realizing it was causing her to bleed. I wonder if her desire for revenge was this apparent when LBY was much younger. Yes, LBY was a witness and no doubt would want revenge regardless of how his aunt felt, but I feel like early exposure would definitely intensify how he felt. It probably doesn't help that he might feel guilty that her son had taken his place.

His real parents were killed in the Gu city massacre, he's actually a Huo and not a Ling. The Ling guy who's shown…
LBY wanted to go out and play so he traded two fruit to swap clothes. HWS wanted to give one to his father, which leads to him witnessing his father’s death at the hands of his uncle.

To be precise, Ling Bu Yi (the real one) made a deal with Huo Wu Sheng (our ML) to swap clothes. They looked similar, so LBY was killed because he was mistaken for HWS. When the aunt came she saw her dead son and living nephew and could surmise what happened. Though I do find it wild that she saw her dead child and her first instinct was to save her young nephew. Her brain must have moved at warp speed in that moment.

Late comment but how the hell do they expect us to wait another 4 days after an ending like that?
They expect you to go into hibernation. 🤣

I have a question:If he knows his "father" is his real father's murderer, why is he still investigating as if…
As a witness he knew about Ling Yi's involvement, but he's been investigating everyone else involved. It got complicated because multiple incidents happened. If one thing had gone different (aka they had good weapons or if the reinforcements had made it on time) there could have been a chance at his family's survival.

As for why he hasn't done anything about Ling Yi, he was only 5 when it happened. He didn't have the resources or backing that he does now. My assumption is he wants concrete proof to show to the emperor.

"As a child he witnessed his father's death, then is forced to treat the murderer as his "father" over the next…
Yeah, it's a spoiler from the novel. We can't say for certain the drama will re-enact it, but based off of trailers, it seems likely. I've never heard anything about Ling Yi having a twin. There's actually a simple explanation as to why no one questions LBY's parentage. The real LBY (ML's cousin) and the ML already looked similar (from genes on the Huo's side) and Ling Yi didn't see his son very often. Also LBY and his aunt went missing for a year, so no one would really question if he changed a bit since children grow really fast at that age.

The end of LBY's conversation with Consort Yue got me thinking ... his tone was so cold and soft that if I hadn't been looking at the subs he could have been talking about the weather for all I know.

When LBY was confronting both Prince Yong and the Marquis about their crimes that contributed to the massacre of the Huo family, he was understandably livid. There are points where he's practically snarling at them. But I couldn't help but notice that whenever he's talking to Ling Yi, it's this cold indifference. Of course, I know it's for his own protection that he can't display any of his true feelings. It just got me thinking a bit.

If he already hates those involved this much, I can't imagine how much he hates Ling Yi. But despite that, he has to bury all of that rage. As a child he witnessed his father's death, then is forced to treat the murderer as his "father" over the next decade. Even if they're considered estranged and don't have to interact often, I'm surprised LBY turned out as well as he did. I don't think it would have been that strange if he had been driven mad, similar to his aunt.

When all that rage finally boils over and our ML chooses revenge over CSS, I already know I'll be devastated. I will understand why, but I think that'll only make it even more heartbreaking.
