Crazy idea I have, and hear me out here, don't be sexist if you don't want to be called sexist.

''Tian Xiwei tries to portray a tough butcher’s daughter, but her natural sweetness undermines the role. Watching her wield a butcher knife feels less like strength and more like a kitten trying to roar.

The show also tries to present progressive gender dynamics but ends up contradicting itself. The heroine proudly defends her independence in front of neighbors, yet quickly hides her profession and seeks validation once the male lead appears.''

If you do not believe these are inherently sexist comments, maybe you shouldn't give your opinion on things.

The reviewer claims in the first paragraph that TXW's sweetness/appearance means she's not fit to hold the role of a strong female lead. This is problematic in nature. A person being sweet or cute does not mean they can't be strong. These two personality traits are not mutually exclusive.

I've already explained why the second paragraph is problematic. It's very misogynistic to hold women to only 2 standards. She can be strong and have insecurities at the same time.

This criticism was not made in good faith. If the reviewer made these comments due to ignorance, they're not fit to give out reviews. If they made them out of malice, it's worse.

You claim that I am the one who lacks critical thinking, but there's a clear difference between invalidating someone's opinion due to it being malicious and sexist vs giving every drama a 1 or a 10.

There's a red line for everyone, and that's my red line. I don't think sexists should be taken seriously. I also don't think sexists can be reasoned with. I'm sorry you disagree with that, but me not arguing about the rest of the review is a choice purely out of principal.

The problem with you camping the reviews of a show you gave a bad review to and dropped, and then defending every negative review afterwards, is that you simply don't have enough information to make an objective review afterwards. 5 episodes have been released since you dropped the show. That's not insignificant. It amounts to you watching 35% more episodes. 35% of a show can make or break it.

Not liking a drama doesn't make you special, nor more well-informed. The normal way to consume media is to watch naturally, and notice things that work for you or don't. If you are watching a show to nitpick issues and analyze faults, then you've simply lost the plot. The point of watching a drama is enjoyment, not to prove your negative viewpoint correct. Yes, rating dramas is subjective, but you can hardly justify giving this show a 1/10 in everything. It has to be the worst c-drama ever made to deserve those ratings, and it's simply not.

I say this review is in bad faith because it simply is. This reviewer has a track record in giving drama's 1/10 rating in everything, and then claiming it's to ''tip the scales since everyone else rated it so high.'' It's their own words. If that is an objective way to review a drama to you, I do not know what to tell you. It's a self-admission that they review dramas with negative pretenses, and that they sensationalize the criticism to (unsuccessfully) justify terrible ratings, just to bring the overall rating of a drama down.

And finally - when did I insult you? Jog on is not an insult, it's simply a British phrasal verb which means go away. And circlejerk is not an insult either, it's a situation where two people indulge in a self-serving discussion to boost each other's views and opinions, which you did by saying you were ''inspired by such a deep and intelligent person''. No part of their review warrants that comment. They did not give any grand insight about the show.

You can act high and mighty all you want, but the fact stays the same, this person did not make this review in good faith.

Go on now, defend sexism, misogyny, and cooking reviews to ''tip the scales''. I wonder how you will try to justify this person's review as not being made with bad intentions.

The reviewer clearly lacks critical thinking skills and can't understand human beings, just like the dramas he rated, are not black or white, they're complex. Their 2nd to last paragraph clearly makes this clear as the reviewer cannot understand the idea of a strong woman still having insecurity. The reviewer apparently believes all women have to be either extremely strong, or extremely frail. Their comments about Tian Xiwei are frankly sexist, which invalidates the whole review for me. If you agree with all of their points like you say you did - then problem lies with you as well because this specific point is clearly not agreeable and sexist in nature.

A more subjective and less important point is the visuals. Anyone who has watched this drama, in my experience, came away extremely impressed by the visuals and often it's the first thing they notice. What is the point in giving a review critiquing the show with such strong negative bias that you turn it's biggest positive into somehow a negative?

Also quite importantly though, why are you obsessed with a drama you apparently ''dropped'' anddidn't enjoy? How do you expect me to believe your own review is in good faith when you police other reviews in the drama after you ''dropped'' it? Does it make you feel good to whiteknight for every negative reviewer of this drama? Maybe don't give reviews on dramas if you have strong negative bias against them (which is clear you do.) ''Inspired by such a deep and intelligent person'' 🤣🤣🤣 honestly just jog on. This isn't a circlejerk session.

Took a look at your past reviews and it's extremely cringe how you give most dramas a 10, and very few a 10 with a couple 8's and 9's sprinkled in there. You can't justify giving this c-drama's cast, story and music a 1 even if you dislike it. Please develop some critical thinking skills and realize not everything has to be perfect or terrible.

Actually episode 18/19. Teaser date confused me.

Just FYI, the male lead is leaving the village in episode 17 and that's when the story is supposed to pick up pace. If you can brace yourself and watch a few more episodes, maybe your opinion would change.
