historical to idol drama speedrun

this is just my personal opinions im not forcing you to agree with me but I have to say im not a hater I genuinely do like this drama but it feels so chopped lowkey

the start was okay for me I didn’t care about cliches when the vibe was giving but when they developed I just found myself skipping because there were no more vibes

personally don’t attack me for this but it feels like for those who enjoy xianxia romance,I don’t get the chemistry at all the only chemistry I ever saw were from the bath scenes

the shows title had so much potential like Mulan which personally should’ve fit LOTFG more than this show itself but they just decided to point the gun at themselves instead

in most dramas that are centred around this kind the romance is most likely just a sub plot but for LOTFG it felt like they were just shoving it down onto me now personally I didn’t read the novel before but from what I see—they screwed up Chu Zhao like REAL bad full ahh reflex angle type of reverse

I never really liked Chu Zhao when he first appeared his character could’ve been so much more but poor man was reduced to a 2nd male lead hopelessly in love with female lead, sighh

I found it weird as how he Yan always getting saved by shifu or xiao jue like isn’t she supposed to be a strong general who dominates male fields in ancient misogynistic China and plus her personality was funny at first but for a person going undercover for revenge she’s kinda sloppy at it.

I like revenge plots but this show’s romance was chocking me so much I genuinely forgot what heyan’s objective was for a while

one thing I like about heyan and Xiao jue was that heyan has been a shadow of someone else never truly herself the mask has always been there whether physically or mentally but xiao jue doesn’t want to see the facade he wants to see the behind the scenes

I personally found myself crying over Mu hongjun x Liu buwang’s story and death lmao

I don’t find anything in cheng lisu or song taotao’s character I don’t feel any emotional depth over their relationship or character it just feels so main lead centred sometimes like I get their the main characters but can I please just watch the side characters more

The fight scenes feel so main lead centred like they get the spotlights but it doesn’t feel like an actual war—it just feels like a performance the vibe doesn’t vibe with me and most people are just eating it up for some reason

Very hot take but this show feels so glazed personally,is it just because yall like xianxia type of romance?

anyway im not hating I just found very little emotional depth in it that resonates with me

Edits:I made this review yesterday night instead of studying for my science test big mistake (very idiotic anyway) I wasn’t able to fully grasp all of my personal perceptions of this show enough from my previous rants so here we go again!Dont take any review from me seriously i just want entertainment which LOTFG has failed me

ill start off with basics and I’ll be straightforward so woosh,i did not read the novel as if it wasn’t already stated before. This show is overrated by the hype,it’s very glazed.I don’t have high expectations but how do you even mess up this bad.Compared to other dramas such as A Journey To Love,My Journey To You and Wonderland Of Love I am easily in love with strong martial artist women but wtf is this?Such cheap goon-romance bait like I lowkey do not for one care if you watch cdramas just to goon to hot actors but seriously?calling this “good” ? it’s like a baby compared to other wuxia romances

Genres are Historical Romance Wuxia War but they should’ve just scrapped everything but romance away because what the actual heck is this?Historical but my girl survives something straight out of miracles cool?War?Then why is it just yapping, plus the war looks so staged bruh

Characters,He yan is a miserable woman who has to shoulder this burden of imposing as her elder brother in military school. She put herself through danger chances of dying for her achievements only for them to be swooped away by the real mask and she becomes disabled, nothing left of her to live.Oh and then she is killed but saved by her master and enters military again to regain her glory oh but she also goofs around!!like what?girl i get it you’ve been acting like some man for most of your life you can’t embrace your femininity but girl??you putting a big giant red flag on your ahh.Plus she ain’t even looked determined for revenge at all it feels more like some side quest and her main quest is to dominate xiao jue tf
Xiao jue,lil bro has been with HeRuFei since the kiddos he could’ve found out he was a fake and a woman like YEARS ago and the way he analysed Heyan but not freaking HeRuFei changing is stoopid lil bro acts like the next art of war author but probably going to be a victim bro he took less than a year to find out Heyan was a woman but buddy ain’t even notice Herufei like what?did he get the blind drink years ago?
Chu Zhao, lil bro tf is you ahh?Wtf happened to your whole character now your just gooning over heyan you used to be some cool morally gray manipulative guy but bro pulled that huge uno reverse off and decided to become a downbad loser that’s getting laughed at by all the viewers.Such a waste bro??
All the side characters, can you guys just kill the screen writer for more screen time please

The trope was pretty okay at first now Yappy silly girl and non chalant calm quiet guy but then they pull this damsel in distress at us so now what legend is she bro?Should be called “Legend of The Female Rizzler” tf girl pulled both genders like the amount of aura from the title itself bro???such a waste of a title

this drama’s supposed main objective was about A woman fighting (literally) in a world where men dominate with power and about the strong connection with the masks well that completely is destroyed.First few episodes she’s crushing it but I don’t see her influence much on the women well excluding the jiangyi arc but still??now the masks and heyans first confession with to mask it felt rushed there was so little time for you to dissect and digest it felt as if it were insignificant

Then after that it just digs deeper into sinkholes like it practically lost me after that heyan screws up so obviously to the enemies (her vengeance for her Xiong dis part) like is that even revenge anymore?Girl should get Zang Hai’s masters clearly Liu Bu Wang had a chatty and failure of a disciple girl ain’t even hiding it when she’s drunk

now war but this feels like some fake musical where the fl and ml are just performing cuz wtf?war is supposed to be dark, affecting everyone, chaos but wow they really wanted to put in some comedy. Why?just why?It feels like a spit into the face for those dead honourable soldiers to call this “war”

Hyped up with all sorts of theories but they chose to dug their own grave

After Squid Game season 2 ended I was genuinely excited to know what will happened and I waited for 6 months just for this disaster.Personally,I am not a harsh person when it comes to ratings on shows but this show got me so anticipated since the first season aired but the ending from season 3 genuinely made me angry—they did all that so they could continue with a ‘Squid Game America’ type of shit. The fans built up all of the conspiracy and I was doing my own predictions too.Guess Gi-hun’s plot armour really ran out that it could not stop the director. My first issue with it is all the amazingly built up character’s deaths,120;Hyun-ju who was a trans-woman and a former top soldier but guess who she died to?A fuckass bitcoin youtuber.Sounds straight out of fiction like that YouTuber has some sleeper build.Player 149;Yong Sik’s mother has got to be the most disappointing death. She killed her son to stop him from killing 222 and the baby oh and guess what she fucking kills herself. She could have spent the rest of her time to protect 222’s baby, she traded her son’s life for the baby and then she just kills herself? This woman is a survivor of wars and yet she died such a useless death, you know what she could have done?Make her son stab her then distract her son with her death to save 222 and her baby.In this way we could have seen 007,her son’s reaction to her death and he would have been a good character.Dae Ho’s death was so stupid and unnecessary but at the same time I understood why gihun blamed him,dae ho could have lived if he had cleared the misunderstanding and gihun reacted more composed.Dae ho could have helped gihun protect the baby but it was so wasted.Myung gi,A star that fell,a star that would do anything to go back into the sky.Now I don’t have any biases in this season but I genuinely wanted to see myung gi win for the baby but there was no point anyway since they had to choose between them (456 & 333) or the baby.I would have loved to see myung gi actually abandon the baby and gi hun to win as of 222’s attitude to him when he tried protecting her all along.Ngl he would have been a cool front man.I find his death stupid and funny how gi hun’s shirt ripped.Gi hun—this man has a heart of empathy that even I don’t think I can reach that level. He went through in and out of hell and would do it again to save hundreds of others but when the greed of the money-hungry people grew more and more I think he lost more and more hope and faith in humanity.Gihun’s last words made me think that at that point he has completely fallen into despair and lost all faith in humanity which would have been interesting if he became the next front man.Hwang jun ho’s stupidity really is most of the cause to be honest. What do you even mean a random ass captain found you from an island in nowhere and you just blindly trusted him as a detective?Min su’s death was obvious but the way he turned from a scaredy cat to some mad man hooked on pills with schizophrenia was not what I really expected an outcome for him. This show really showed humanity’s intense greed for a better life and the less and lesser empathy in society. Now Netflix gonna fuck up the whole image with their ‘American Squid Game’

Anyway I wish the baby had died so we could have dived deeper into humanity’s loss of empathy lmao

To sum up,this season started off strong and ended with disappointment.I genuinely would have liked to see gihun developing from an empathetic kind soul to a person who has lost hope in this world, not sure if I’m into anti-hero characters but eh.Gihun did sacrifice people though so I felt like it would have been more satisfying for him to turn into a monster

don’t take drugs guys especially if it was made by some random guy called Bei

Simply mind blowing—I don’t even know what to say or what to react,my minds circling around, questioning my existence in what this show has torn me into.

I feel really mesmerised by the characters and all these plots

first of all,Bei Ming.A top detective smart, intelligent and all the works. He got too cocky and screwed up causing his own downfall. After watching ‘Coroner’s Diary’ it felt as if Bei Ming wasn’t just simply another genius case-solver,he had a childhood sweetheart, childhood friend,a deep brotherly bond.Bei Ming gambles.Romance in this show isn’t even that much of a problem if you dislike romance (the only kiss is at the last episode)

also most people are saying that why did the female lead poison Bei ming or why did Feng qingzhuo do that well guess what my bros,it’s the thing that saves the whole damn ending

secondly,Xueman—the king of constable’s daughter.Well respected in the field and has a childhood sweetheart. At the beginning she was angry at Bei Ming but protected him like gold.At episode 35 she decided to sacrifice herself just to break the wall for the gang

If im going to talk about all the characters I liked that would take pretty long

Also did we all get baited by Tong Peng bc of his cute face ???? Like I gen could not believe this cute little guy going around and killing powerful individuals

In these cases of Yesha vs Qi I always thought to myself—Were they any wrong?Yes they did things in wrong ways but hear me out on this one.Yesha, was he wrong?Yes and no.He has a reason to be angry from the slaughter but he took it out wrongly.Qi was also like that, they were both wrong and yet right too.Hypocrisy, very ironic.

The vendetta of Haiya, but do the haiyans want to?Yesha dragged Haiyans down when they lit are already at the rate of extinction.Yesha lowk stupid for that but ey at least the zhu yitie killing method looked cool asf.

Hey but I mean Yesha was groomed by the previous Yesha so can’t blame his ass when he grew up in killing killing settings

Honorable mention to my goat zhuge kongyun!!!!!! My man was underrated asf bro he’s so goated

Character development,plot twists,villains I am flabbergasted

Yesha (the henchmen) were just orphans but Bei Kun made them into revenge machines their only purpose as once they finish their murders they self annihilate

Can we talk about Bei Kun not wanting to blow up the gang maybe because he saw them mourning his corpse?Like I can be wrong but still

anyway I still find it stupid this story exists because of a man who got cocky (like bei ming) to the emperor.Truly biological father and son ey.

I also really like the zhuge tong part with Zhong yunchi and his friendship together

Yesha’s act feels too good to be true, can directors cast Yesha into dramas soon?

anywho I have some recs of shows that feel like TWD/CW
Coroner’s Diary
Go East
The imperial coroner
The legend of Zang Hai
The ingenious one

These are shows I have heard about there’s probably many more but thanks for reading lol

Revenge with your own hands or will the law one day punish the criminals?

Coroner’s Diary’s main message to me is the contradicting beliefs between Shen Wan and most of the villains—their methods of revenge.
Yang Caihe,Shen Wan’s senior in medicine king valley,Qing and Yanze what they have in common as villains are reasons for their murders—personal vendettas
In modern society (mostly social media) many praise those who have slaughtered the criminals they belief that the modern judicial system has failed them especially in cases involving women (shown in the Caihe arc)
In Coroner’s Diary at the final episode Shen Wan and Yan Chi reinstated new laws so that nobody will ever need to take matters into their own hands
Coroner’s Diary’s representation of corruption by those high in power really remind me of our real world leaders we have targeted at an orange

though most villains got their vengeance through means of blood Shen Wan got her revenge through the law

I am not one to judge of our modern day justice system as I am just a single individual still studying so therefore there is no definite answer to revenge through your own means or by the law

I might as well label this the drama I was craving for. However, there will always be something that you dislike and as for me it is Shen Wan’s character

Shen Wan lacks depth to me,she feels dry, lacks imperfections.I would have labeled her as a mary sue if not for her arguments with Yanchi in the early part of the drama.I don’t know if it’s because I prefer more morally grey characters over those who are just “good” but she’s just so boring, even the fake emperor felt more pleasing to watch than her.Her relationship with Yanchi feels so meh—Yanchi would have been another one but the newest 6 episodes saved him so I’ll give him some slack.I never got the hype between Shen Wan and yanchi I only assumed it was popular because they were the main leads or people were just gooning to hot guy lmao, the chemistry felt raw—there’s no spark just a green flag guy with a smart girl.

Again I’m just a teenager who failed literature so you can say my inferences of characters are wrong and I wouldn’t argue about it

One thing I really wished for this series was that it was like WAY longer like I saw how long the novel was (500+ chapters) And the other 2 Main leads get more screen time and impact on the story rather than just Female and Male lead carrying

I wish Yanche and Qin Zhaoyu had a better conclusion, they would have been a cute couple together but they barely lasted even a few episodes.

I also wish we had more moments between Yan Qi and Qin Xiang but meh that guy is a pain in my soul so eughh

One thing I really loved in the series was the villains especially Yan Han who would show no mercy to anyone who would even figure out his conspiracy but his most fatal weakness was his son which he had abandoned just like Former Prince Rui showed his love to yanchi

For me Yang Caihe and Qing were really iconic and well the others they’re okay (I sound gay for this)

To conclude my review,Coroner’s Diary has the best message which mirrors our current day system and I actually enjoyed watching the villains compared to most cdramas where the villain is annoying as heck

The corrupted ones showed the most cowardice when they lost their power but Shen Yi protected his wife and daughter till his last breath (hah get it cuz he’s dead and also drowned) —sorry lmao
