I wouldn't call it a sequel either. The few characters that remained are totally different from how we remember them. So treat it as a new drama. DF and Viki are subbing it.
I just watched episode 13 and I feel like I've been losing interest in this drama little by little bc it's been focusing more and more on the romance. I don't actually like the leads much but the story is interesting... I hope there will be less romance and more politics in the coming episodes. I like romance, but I find this drama's romance uninteresting. There are too many romantic scenes per episode so the story is a little slow atm.

I see the same kind of roles, both leads lose loved ones (secret: girlfriend, baby, and father; time: male lead's, mother and sister and mother of female lead), the girl is betrayed by her lawyer boyfriend (and of course he's a son of a bitch, main lead is suspected of murder, the male lead is a very rude chaebol, def not a nice guy, etc. Probably there's more, but it's been a long time since I've watched Secret.
Very very similar to Time! Almost the same thing with different faces. I like both but I personally enjoy Time better but Secret had some good dark stuff like the prison part. And I have to say I like Lee Da Hee much better Hwang Seung Eon.

I've watched 5 episodes out of 8 and having watched Zhen Huan too, I've been constantly telling myself to stop thinking that Ruyi is a sequel to that drama because things have been changed and the few characters from the prequel were changed from villains to heros and vice versa. We should treat it as a totally separate drama. Btw I'm enjoying Ruyi even better than Zhen Huan.

I haven't watched Ruyi yet but I'm sure you don't have to watch a 76 episodes long drama just to watch this one. It's the story of the emperor that succeeds the emperor of the prequel. So even though I've watched Zhen Huan and though I'm still waiting for Portuguese subs so I can watch Ruyi with my dad I'd say it's totally safe to watch it without having watched Zhen Huan.
