Just watched episode #5.
Don't get too attached to Baba, the visit to his parents is a pretty obvious death flag.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I agree. I'd already got this pegged as a cross between Top Gun & Heartbreak Ridge, with Sakurama as Kelly McGillis and Yame as Clint Eastwood, maybe Arai is Iceman and Baba is the unfortunate Goose............

4 episodes in and I just realised that Instructor Fuyumi is the dead girl in the painting in Mystery to Iunakare. I must look at the hair more than the face!

I enjoyed it- I'm not sure why really- maybe it is the novelty, everybody in the JGSDF just seems so nice, not like the military dramas we get in the UK. Looking forward to the next episode anyway.

The actress is like that, she was the same in prison school and kakegurui. I prefer Yayoi as a love interest, she would never sell him out. Fujita is growing up as the series continues, she is a spoiled selfish little girl (aged 26) at the start, but gets better.
She certainly suffers from naive realism though!

I liked the part where Matsu meets Matsu!

I just translated the j-subs through DeepL. Nowhere near as good as Eve, but I can get the gist of what they are saying.

I cant find the MG5 raws, the deadend raws are available if you search. Be careful with mg5 there is an arc about Matsu and his mother that will make you cry- it starts when Takeshi gets a job in a pet shop.

In fact, both of the traumatic arcs (Matsu arc in mg5 and the final deadend arc) happen because Takeshi gets a job, and Tsuyoshi told him to get one as he sets off to school......

Yes if you take it at face value.

Nanba Mg5 is partly fan translated in the usual places, but everything from Nanba's election to student president is in Nanba Deadend which isn't translated at all.

In the manga, his class protest the same and the staff agree to a 3 week suspension not expulsion, but the Principal & slimy guidance teacher blackmail him into dropping out of school himself. I'm not 100% clear on it but his middle school teacher did something unethical that got him into Shirayuri, (in episode 4 there were 2 conversations that talk of how amazing it was Nanba passed the exam with such a short time to study), and if it is revealed he will lose his job and pension, but there is no need if Nanba drops out and keeps quiet- so he does to save his teacher.

I loved it, there were tears in my eyes too! Now there's talk of a movie I'm worried again, I'd have preferred the series to end with his family sat watching him graduate. The final manga arc would certainly make a dramatic movie, but he wouldn't graduate unless they time shift it, the Principal could still pull the same stunt as in the manga when Nanba gets inside......

If you've seen the trailer, it's obvious we can expect the reconciliation with his parents, Godai to knock some sense into Takeshi, the confession with Miyuki and all his friends getting his expulsion overturned. The manga threw a curved ball on that, but with the events of the manga final arc he'd never have taken his finals anyway, so I'm hoping if we are not having the final arc we won't need that to happen.

I hope that he graduates from Shirayuri, and goes to University. I'd like it if he got with Yayoi, as an ex ladies gang leader she's a much better fit with his family than Miyuki.

We get to find out tomorrow whether it follows the manga route (I spotted some foreshadowing of that in earlier episodes) or gives us the ending we want. I've seen too many Jdrama & films where you get an unnecessary bad ending (I never got over Your Lie in April) to be sure, except the final manga arc won't fit into time remaining as well as resolving the current crises.

The average age of a highscooler in a Jdrama is 25 :)
