100% agree on the necessity of the drunk scene! It highlights both Taichi's inability to at that point to face his feelings and Kouhei's resulting assumption that Taichi doesn't reciprocate. The drama's reason for that initial distance between them in episode 7/8 felt a little... small in comparison.

That's a good point, though I guess for me I viewed the misunderstanding about Kouhei's supposed girlfriend as the main trigger point for Taichi's realization that his feelings towards Kouhei were romantic. Honestly though, I think I just might be too close to the manga at the moment to have an objective opinion 😭 I've listened to the drama CD version for the confession scene so many times that it's literally playing through my head as I'm typing this lol

Totally understand how it might frustrate viewers further, but I feel like it's still pretty crucial context just because it emphasizes Kouhei's default habit of maintaining the status quo to protect himself, and by extension Taichi. Taichi yelling at him in the next lines would also make more sense.

Re: replacement of girlfriend with note taker - still feel like it isn't a perfect replacement in my eyes... I mean, it's already established fact that Kouhei would have to get a new note taker if Taichi isn't there, right? Maintaining the "girlfriend" thread is important because there's a clear romantic element there that we're able to tie Taichi's jealousy / discovery of feelings to.

As a manga reader, I wish they kept the misunderstanding about Kouhei having a girlfriend. I feel like that would have made Taichi's realization of his own feelings a little more convincing... or maybe I'm just too attached to the confession in the manga to think clearly at the moment lol

Manga reader here - I ship them as well! They have quite a few cute moments in the manga, and it's confirmed that Yasu has a crush on her - though at the current point of the manga it's still not clear whether her feelings towards him extend beyond "upperclassman/friend" (it's actually hinted that she has a slight crush on Taichi, though it's pretty blink-and-you-miss-it). Yasu was actually originally in the scene where Taichi defends Maya from her high school friends, and walks her home as she's crying. Which I kind of wish they kept, but you know. Probably limited budget.

lmao i think it'd be kind of hilarious if they did that, but i'd also fear for the director/production team/actors' social media accounts because i just know that the fan response will be insane, and not in a good way

very bittersweet to know there are only three episodes left, but i'm also incredibly excited to see the next three chapters adapted - those chapters each contain a scene that are probably my favorites out of the entire series (and is one of the reasons why theory of happiness still remains my favorite volume of the manga). but i also don't want this to end :')

i was on weibo and apparently in kobayashi toranosuke's fanclub livestream he mentioned that he filmed a bbq scene, so they might be adapting the camping extra after all? though i'm also curious what the exact contents of next week's episode will be since it seems to be hinting a similar 'outing' episode, so maybe it was actually for episode 6 instead...
