I thought this would be a feel good movie but boy, was I wrong. I cried so much. Especially because I had read about the Nayoung case before watching this movie and it's absolutely horrifying to know that this movie is based on a true story :( Absolutely recommendable though if you're in for a tearjerker!
For anyone who has seen the Korean television show The Genius, Liar Game is that variety show in drama mold. Very enjoyable and intelligent and especially recommendable if you enjoyed The Genius (or vice versa - go watch The Genius if you enjoyed watching this!)
Only thing that has bothered me crazily though - the acting. I can actually live with the acting of the two main characters but everyone except them are foot acting. The side characters (especially the other contestants) are cartoonish and they are only making a shocked/angry/evil/whatever face because the director tells them to. If it hadn't been for their acting, I would have enjoyed the drama much and much more for the reasons stated above. (Also, what's up with the fashion?! This was filmed in 2007, not in the 1980s!)
To end it on another note - I wish Kanzaki Nao would have been smarter. In this case, Akiyama was way too 'overpowered' compared to the other contestants. Only mushroom head was an intelligent opponent but he was acted so over the top that I couldn't enjoy watching him either. I wish the writers could have made Nao a worthier opponent that might not have been the most intelligent one out there but could still think of tricks etc. But nope, she definitely only got through every single round because of Akiyama.
If you're able to ignore the foot in the mouth acting though, I'd definitely recommend watching this!
