I totally agree with you that ratings do not reflect the quality of drama and isn't a garante that we are going to like it, but I like to see the ratings because in Korean this is a very important criterion for evaluating whether a drama is successful or not
and consequently, whether the actors I like are doing well or not.

Dramas with very good rating can get more sponsors or even more episodes and the cast can get better opportunities in the future. And the success in the domestic still more important than the international success for most of the broadcastings, sponsors and artist (have one big international hit doesn't necessary means that an artist will have more job offers)...

So, by the rating I can see how the artists that I like are doing in Korea and know better how their career is going. Lee Bo Young is an exemple of it... Most of her dramas aren't international hits and many international fans of kdramas doesn't even know how she is, but in Korea she is a recognized actress and her dramas have very good ratings. Even though international sites doesn't talk much about her, by the rating of her dramas I'm able to see how she is doing there.

There's also some thing of "pride" to see the dramas that we like doing good and being recognized :)

No, it's a very light story. I almost don't watch historical dramas bc of the same reasons, I always get angry and stop in the middle... But this is more a like a romcom, the king almost does't appear and it doesn't have any plot related to multiple wifes.

There are some politics bc the 3 mais character investigate some cases of corrupted officials, but none of the cases are heavy and they get resolved really fast. And there isn't any plot of women fighting for the same men. Overall, the scrip may seem a bit silly bc of this, but for me it's what make watching this drama such a nice experience.

And I loved Mr. Queen, but you may fell troubles by some part of the story. The King (main lead) has an wife and a concubine. There are many political conflicts, some of them a bit heavy. I don't remember if there is cheating, but the story has many lies ans conspiracy. The first half of the show is really fun, but it started to get more and more heavy from the middle to the end. I had a really hard timing finishing it.

Did you watched Royal Secret Agent? Is a very nice historical rom-com, really enjoyed it. And he's character is soo fun, he nailed it.

They probably took inspiration from america super-heros, not Moving (as moving also took inspiration from super-heros stories). Say they are "copying" is a bit too strong when talking about something that have been used again and again as super powers

With exception of Moon Embracing The Sun (this would exige bigger changes os the history), all the other drama could easily be adapted to the west context (including latin america). As you may not know, The World of The Married is based on the BBC One's drama series Doctor Foster.
The Korean professionals are always taking inspiration and reference from cultural productions of other countries (as almost any professional from this industry do).
It's normal that you'll like some productions and others no, this is only because of your personal taste and not because the drama is faithful to the "kdramaland principles" that you say that exist or because they are to western

As I can see, korean professionals can produce very well dramas from a huge range of genre and subjects, like Mother, The Word Of The Married, Healer, Forest of Secrets, Whats Wrong With Secretary Kim,
Moon Embracing The Sun, My Mister, Reply 1988..... This only to name a few.

All industries change with time, dramas from the 2000 are quiet different from the ones of 2010 and those changes will keep happening. And if actor, directors, writers and soo many other professionals are choosing to work with Netflix is because they see something they like and aprove in the way Netflix work.

The mother left the father do all the experiments in Ro-Hee, so she's also bad and responsable for all suffering that Ro-Hee went through.

No, it doesn't... I watched until ep 10 and the story didn't go to anywhere. It should have 12 episodes at most

She was stabbed by her father and everyone rushed her to forgive him... Yeo Reum even screamed if her. How anyone can blame a kid for want the person the make her suffer so much to be punished?? Everyone make it looks like she was the wrong one and her father was the one that needed attention and forgiveness! If he wanted to be forgiven, he should have stepped forward and accept the consequences, but he didn't even payed the hospital bills.

The plot goes to all the wrong places.. Wasted 6h watching the firsts episodes

It was also important that the Queen had a powerful family to protect her so the other families/clan don't go against her and the Emperor or even kill her... Palace were really dangerous places, the Grandmother is probably worried that if the Kink marries a commoner, he'll lose political power or even get destitute.

I'm in doubt about this drama. Some are saying it's really funny but others say the script get lost in itself. Did you kept watching?
Maybe is better wait until it end to have a better notion about it all... Hate lose my time starting dramas that I wont finish bc they get to bad

I may be wrong because I never study this, so I apologize in case I'm saying nonsense. But from watch I have seen in cdramas and in kdramas, the king had many wifes (the queen and the concubines) to be sure that he would have many descendents and the throne would be safe.

And the Queen and the Concubines were from important families, so the marriage with the king where some way of reinforce to the alliance between the King and these families. The King would have more supporte from these family because someone of their family where almost "prisoners" in the palace (the concubines couldn't get out or see their family without authorization) and the families would have more power and influence because of that proximity with the king. And there was also the possibility of the concubine became the mother of the crown prince...

It was a win-win (with lots of irony) for everybody except the women :( .... It really scary and make me sad how little power women had back them. I love historical dramas but I always get ou really angry ou really sad with how much they suffered because those social norms.... I'm sooo glad things are changing.

There's also "Bloody Heart" and River "Where the Moon Rises". Didn't watch but it had good reviews and apparently a nice ending.

I would say that this kid of history is more commun in cdramas. There are many wonderful cdramas in that line, I'm pretty sure you'll like them if you give a chance.

- Love Like Galaxy (an epic love story)
- Who Rules the World (Yan Yang is perfect here)
- New Life Begins (perfect!!)
- Oh My General (really fun, more like Mr. Queen)

Ah... I had forget the friend that didn't want to have children and she was a great character. I loved how she and her husband handled the situation

Loved the relationship of the main couple, they were awesome together ❤️ But I can remember only the main couple and the other couple with best friend of ML , witch was the third couple?
