I like Season 2 more than Season 1 for several reasons. The scale is much larger and the pacing faster, but I like the relationships most. Saya is a more compelling character in season 2, almost more interesting than Eunsom.

Eunsom was a great character in the first season because he was a young, innocent guy who had many fascinating things happen to him that made you wonder how he would react. This time, he is a heroic figure without many surprises. We know too much about what to expect from him.

Saya was a nasty personality in season 1 and not very relatable. This time, he seems more complex and pitiful. It isn't just that he had a miserable childhood; he now has a younger brother who has everything he wanted but couldn't have. The jealousy and resentment, but also the longing, are palpable.

However, the relationship between the two is incredible. They never met in Season 1, but their meetings are the most fun thing about Season 2. I like Song Joong Ki as an actor, but I don't think he could have pulled off the twin roles like Lee Joon Gi does. It was easy to tell them apart when their hair was so different. Now, the hair has to be the same to enable the switch, which is so much fun. Yet, LGJ makes their differences obvious just with his expressions, even when they are pretending to be each other.

I'm looking forward to the second half of the series.

Now it feels like watching a train wreck--horrifying but sort of hard to take your eyes off. Does the writer or whoever think that suddenly changing everything about the way the characters act will make us forget the things they said and did a few episodes back? Switching from one cliche to another doesn't work.
