Lu Wuyi walked through the busy streets with a small smile on her face, her heart beating in excitement at the thought of flowers and a certain man.
It had become a daily routine for her, she would pick the best and most fresh berries from her garden, and then, she would make her way to Ji Ling's flower shop.
She told herself that it was because she loved flowers, but deep down she knew. The reason she kept going there had nothing to do with flowers.
When Lu Wuyi reached her destination, she paused and sighed in exasperation. Ji Ling was nowhere to be found. She had told him to not leave the shop unattended, but the man wouldn't listen to her.
"No one has the desire to steal flowers." He had declared with a shrug.
Lu Wuyi put the basket full of berries on the counter with a pout. She had gone through the trouble of coming here even if her house was far away, and Ji Ling thought that it would be a good idea to make her wait.
She frowned at her berries, as if they were the ones at fault, and shoved some of them in her mouth.
Less berries for him then.
Lu Wuyi was about to sit on Ji Ling's, wooden chair, when she noticed some flowers she had never seen before.
They had a deep red colour and she found herself walking towards them in fascination
Oh... They were so beautiful.
She went to pick one up, but once she touched the stem, Wuyi felt as if she got pricked by tiny needles.
A tiny gasp left her lips, and she quickly retrieved her hand back with a frown. She turned her palm slowly, freezing at the sight of blood.
Lu Wuyi didn't know why, but she wanted to puke at the sight of it.
It made her feel dirty and disgusting, but for some strange reason, she couldn't look away.
Her hand wasn't hurting, but her heart was. Without a warning, her eyes welled up, making her vision blurry.
A warn hand warped around her wrist, shaking her out of her trance.
"I've been calling your name forโ" Ji Ling noticed her teary eyes, the bright smile on his face dimming. "What's wrong?"
Wuyi opened her mouth to speak but no sound came out. His hold on her wrist was so soft and gentle, yet it made her skin burn.
It didn't take long for him to notice the state of her hand. "Oh." He frowned before giving her a disapproving look. "Roses have thorns, don't you know that?"
She obviously did not.
Lu Wuyi tried to shake his hold off but Ji Ling only gripped her wrist tighter. "Your hands are too pretty to be stained with blood." He mumbled softly.
Her face flushed at his words and in a blink of an eye, she found herself being dragged by Ji Ling inside the flower shop. "What are you doing?"
He ignored her question, motioning for her to take a seat. "Wait here."
She missed his touch the same second he let go. Lu Wuyi didn't know what to do with that thought.
Her gaze fell upon her palm once again. It wasn't even that much blood, just a few drops.
Why did she overreact like that earlier? Lu Wuyi huffed at her foolishness, and was about to wipe her hand on her dress when Ji Ling stopped her by taking hold of her wrist once again.
The warmth was back.
"I have a better idea." He sat by her side, putting a small pot full of water and a few flower petals in front of her.
"You're being dramatic." She deadpanned with a roll of her eyes, turning her face away from him to hide her smile.
Ji Ling pushed her hand on the water without warning, making Lu Wuyi jump in suprise.
"It's cold!" She hissed, giving him a glare.
"You're being dramatic." He threw her words right back at her, laughing when she splashed water at his face.
When he went to do the same, Lu Wuyi gasped, squishing her eyes shut.
But nothing came.
She felt Ji Ling's hand covering her own as he guided it in the water once again. He held it in place, waiting for her to get used to the temperature.
Lu Wuyi had no idea on how to react. She just stayed still, hoping that Ji Ling could not hear how loud her heart was beating at the moment.
After what felt like an eternity, she dared to open her eyes, heart jumping to her throat when she found him staring at her already.
Ji Ling cleared his throat and averted his gaze, cheeks turning red from getting caught. "Is the water to your liking now?"
Lu Wuyi hummed thoughtfully, her fingers flexing under his own. "I guess."
She expected him to finally let go, but instead of that, Ji Ling started washing her hand with so much gentleness and care, as if she was the most precious thing in the world.
Meanwhile, Wuyi could not take her eyes away from Ji Ling's face. The strange feeling from before started coming back, and something tugged at her heart.
Ji Ling removed her hand from the water, and started wiping it with a piece of cloth.
Suddenly he paused, brows furrowing in thought before turning to her with a pained look. "Wuyi... Sometimes it feels as if I've known you for a long time."
He gulped, his eyes searching her face for any signs of understanding.
"Actually, since the first time my eyes fell upon you, I felt an instant connection! It's as if my soul gravitates towards you. I know I may sound crazy but it's true! Do youโ" He let a shaky breath, trying to calm himself down or she might really think he was crazy.
"Please tell me you feel it too."

He got up, wanting nothing more than to run away in shame, but then Lu Wuyi grabbed his arm, forcing him to sit back down.
"It's the same for me too!" She breathed, and it finally felt as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. "Sometimes I can even hear your voice! Like when I got hurt by the rose earlier! I'm sure it was you talking to me!"
Lu Wuyi scooted closer to him, their shoulders touching. "Do you think we're both going crazy?"
If being fully consumed by the thoughts of Lu Wuyi to the point of hearing her voice and seeing her everywhere meant he was going crazy, he didn't mind it one bit.
For some unknown reason, Ji Ling felt the need to cup her face with his hands, so he did just that. "Lu Wuyiโ"

They both jumped at the sudden sound, turning around to find a man eyeing them with a disapproving glare, a sword resting in his hold.
"Are you the owner? If so, can I buy some flowers? You both can continue whatever this is later."
Lu Wuyi and Ji Ling exchanged looks before hastily getting up, making the pot fall down in the process.
The man scoffed at them, before making his way outside.
"That scared me." He mumbled to Lu Wuyi, and she could only nod.

A couple came to a stop outside the flower shop. The wife turned to her husband, giving him a questioning look. "That's why we came here?"
"Isn't it beautiful?"
"Wu Shiguang. You know that I don't like flowers."
"Yes. I do."
"So what are we doing in a flower shop?"
He smiled softly, and it was one of those times where Wu Wangyan felt as if her husband knew things that she didn't.
"The flowers here are different. You might like them."
Wu Wangyan doubted that. She was sure that she had seen all the flowers in the world by now, and she couldn't care less about them.
But strangely enough, she felt a lump taking form in her throat when she took a closer look at them.
