Jia knows how to slay her makeup and is amazing at acting cool and chic. However, she is openly fickle and her eyes roam from guy to guy. She gives off the air of IU in the miniseries Persona. She'll fill your head and your dreams then leave you dry. Fascinating. I'm almost done with Ep. 7
maybe I'm used to reality tv with actual drama happening...this was the most dry, boring show I've watched in…
Are you used to "actual" drama or just unnecessary drama stirred up by social media and the producers...hm. Obviously it's more tame, this is SK, not like Western speed-dating reality shows. To be honest I'm surprised that despite how little dressed they were, there wasn't as much sexualization going on.
Exactly what I've been saying. The double standards of some viewers is just too much. Bashing Jin Taek for the…
Ew. Why bash Jin-taek, he didn't even do much wrong. Sehoon was a "I have to win her" competitve weirdo, if anything he was the problematic one. I'm glad she said what she said to him. Additionally, she didn't blow the note out of proportion? She only was having it in her mind because SHE was the one interested in him lol. She even expressed her fear because he was so obviously into other women. She was asking for advice from everyone and seemed embarrassed if anything. She shouldn't have kept talking about it though, since no one else was. It made things awkward.
I re-watched her conversation with Sehoon and TBH his mannerisms, voice, and behaviour were really aggressive. He's a sensitive man-child. "you might be making her uncomfortable" irritated him? Other guys said the same thing to him, just more sugar-coated. Ji-yeon even didn't really make attempts to talk to him at all. And then he did the mental gymnastics acting oFfeNdEd that she confessed to him because he tried to tie it to Jin-taek. Yuck.
Soyeon seems agressive at one point, and can clearly see how uncomfortable Jin Taek and Sehoon with her words.…
----- Clarification for people who will cry the "stan" excuse just in case: I liked So-yeon and Yewon the most of all the girls, mostly because of their proactivity on the show. But she was not infallible, and not perfect. She did overthink at times. However... -----
"She also vote for sehoon in the first episode, so isn’t that also mean she pick someone she thought she has interests with" - Like you stated, she literallypicked someone she knew wouldn't pick her because she was sure Jin-taek would do the same thing, and stay on the Island together. Sehoon STOPPED showing any interest in her after the first day, though they seemed so close while cooking, and she knew that. If anything, she was ready to throw him out of her options at that point. It was only AFTER when they were in the Inferno together, that she started to think more about Sehoon and her having a chance again.
Also...."but that’s the same case with jintaek and jiyeon (even according to hyeonjoong). " It was proved in the playbacks Jin-taek lied and did not do the same. He DID have some interests in Ji-yeon, saw she was tall, and they even had interactions that day where he saw she was proactively responding to him. TBH I understand and like Jin-taek, and to me he seemed the most natural and coolest on the show. But he shouldn't have pretended he had no thoughts of Ji-yeon just to make So-yeon feel better. And she found that out and felt weird, since he lied about it.
"asked Sumin what if she likes Sehoon, can Sumin gives Sehoon for her" I guess I can leave this up to subjectivity, but you come off as sensitive here. When she said it, she said it jokingly and in a more chic way. Even the other girls have said similar things or even stated how they may have liked the same guys, or guys liked the same girls. What is wrong with her being light-hearted and funny about it, jokingly so that the Sehoon conversation with the girls was not tense? It was a joke. There was nothing 'mean' about it.
"The way she goes around talking about people" She does this more than others, and I even was a bit annoyed by some of her comments. Like the way she kept complaining about Jin-taek's actions even though he was more loyal than others on the show. Gladly she was able to self-reflect and realize she could have done more of the "small things" to reciprocate Jin-taek's feelings
Wait...while typing I'm reflecting on it now...honestly, Jia, Yewoon, and other girls do the same thing, just less so because it wasn't their personality to talk much on this show. She is more outspoken and doesn't leave all the things she notices only for her private previews. Nothing she had ever said was messed up or out of the ordinary, she just repeats what most people already saw to others that may not have. When oh when will society stop demonizing women for this...
"she intentionally told all the girls that she got a vote from Sehoon the first day," She said this for context, and not so much to brag or make an uproar about it. No offense, but you seem to have just been seeing Soyeon in red at that point. Which is normal I guess, it happens to viewers all the time.
Honestly, I feel like none of the girls were really problematic in this show at all, except maybe Jia with her indecisiveness and the way she wasn't honest to the guys at times. People like Sehoon and that new guy... Hyeongjeon? Idk, were not it at all. I typed this all very fast, excuse typos I guess.
The men on this show have really weird taste, obsessing over Jia , the LEAST attractive one in my opinion LOLI…
Her makeup and then her cold and chic personality is what made them so wild. To me, it seemed like it was about 'winning' a girl that was too good for you, or wouldn't give you the time of day.
No homo , I honestly felt bad for him but what turned me off was how he couldn’t hold a conversation with soyeon…
He was her wake-up call lol. The way she just looked at him in the end...he was giving her the immature, younger man vibe that she wanted to run away from. Lol, hilarious. He was really hurt though.
i hope people understand that Koreans often have the idea of "us and them" for beauty standards, its something…
I agree with this except for the last line lol. "Black is beautiful" was created to combat Western and mostly U.S standards of beauty and demonization of black looks and Afro-centric features. It is not meant, and was never meant, to argue that stereotypical Eurocentric or "white" looks are inferior.
Also, like @mini said somewhere down in the comments, "The fact that colorism has been around for decades in asia doesn’t mean it’s not problematic"
I just started watching this show on Netflix for shits and giggles, but to be honest, Jin-taek is giving an immaculate first impression. We love a loyal go-getter. Likes poetry? Owns a tailor shop?! Goodness. And I LOVE Yewon and Soyeon so much. Yewon seems like such a chilled person, and Soyeon gives mature sports mom.
Major L. Sick kids sick town unsatisfying ending (which is kind of embarrassing considering they all were viciously murdered and died). And there was nothing to learn from it either... Booooo
you are not alone!this is exactly what made me love this drama so much,it was realistically painful(if that makes…
Ah yes! I was pleasantly (and painfully) surprised they added the topics of the death of her children and how her passing affected Jeongjo. I thought they would just end on her becoming a consort and they were HAPPILY EVER AFTER. It wouldn't be a bad ending, just a predictable one.
"Everytime I am alone, I keep calculating. What have I earned here? What have I lost?"
That quote at the end of episode 16 gave me goosebumps. I know some people in the comments of the streaming sites I watched this on were annoyed by the back and forth and constant pain even though our leads obviously loved each other. But such is the life of a concubine, and such are the restrictions on a King, especially a King with a family background like King Jeongjo's. I prefer bittersweet and painful historical dramas to overly optimistic ones. Yes, I may be a masochist...
I only saw him in Move to Heaven and wondered where the hell such a superb actor had been hiding. I then was reminded of the hilarious interview he had with Jessi. To be honest, all this information about him is surreal. It's always the underdog - that has so much hard work and notches on their belt - that takes time to shine. I'm glad he is receiving popularity and the spotlight. He deserves it.
