that is my peeve with the adaptation and casting. HRF/HY and XJ never meets again in the novel after she runs away to the army during her early teens (think 12 -14) and as generals they were operating on opposite ends of the kingdom) and HRF took over the identity on HY's return prior XJ meeting General FeiHong. So height and build differences can be chalked up to growth spurt. this was 2 year school + 5 year army gap.
HRF also stayed in the capital to avoid his troops (ppl likely to tell a difference) and the moment he deployed he engineered a situation that cause ALL of the Fuyue commanders to die in order to hide his identity.

drama they met multiple times and suddenly HRF is both taller and stockier a few days/ weeks later after general xiao's death
