I liked what I got, but too much was lost with the movie format. Part of the magic with two ”straight” men falling in love like this is the journey, with slow discovery and feelings unfolding but that felt very rushed. Explained, but not explored enough
is Jiang Mu in the novel a cutesy fashionista with backless dresses and mini skirts? is that part of her character?
No. More like a tiny and vulnerable sparrow with an inner fiesty. This is just Esther Yu playing herself as usual. She’s also giving me more little sister vibes with her acting childish around him
as if huajin wouldn’t have anticipated the emperors feeling of potential threat and married the woman before she was apointed as a general again. I seriously dislike when scriptwriters do these kinds of character assasinations just for dramatic effect. the result is pure stupidity. I had to take a break from ep 35 because everyone went crazy
him finding out her identity was so much better in the novel, in the drama, it feels like they didn't even try
yeah, I’m reading the novel. every change felt fine up until those episodes and now the drama is a hot mess. it’s like they didn’t really get the beauty of the story with her so insecure about being a lovable female
Just started watching this and I need to vent as I am at ep 21 now —the ML is pissing me off so much midway…
Removing the jade will also remove his memories and their special bond, so of course he’s hesitant to do it. And also, without his powers he can’t protect her and there was a lot going on during those episodes
ok, I’m up to ep 23. xiao jue is doing this big investigation into what happened during the battle when his father died, but as soon as he learns that he yan is he rufei he just shuts her down instead of actually listen to her side of the story..? despite all that happened in the previous episodes with him showing remarkable trust in her and her abilities? why is our commander suddenly stupid and unreasonable totally out of character? ugh
I thought I was jaded over a decade that I was dropping series or just skip-watching only some parts of them.…
same! It’s rare for me to not only finish a drama but also feel that loss when it’s ended. mostly the story with all the romance elements of sweetness and pain, but the overall production, pacing, OST and so on was also spot on. and cheng lei really got to showcase his whole acting range
I tried it, got lost in all the characters, took a break after 9 episodes, watched Dashing Youth, fell in love with Xiao Ruofeng, got back to TBOY. Made so much more sense now! I cried over a sword. Laughed out loud. Fell in love with Xiao Se and Wuxin. Binged the whole thing. Very well made, very good pace, interesting story
The major part of this drama was heartwarming and amazing and SO beautiful and if you’re into power couples, don’t let the reviews deter you from giving this a go. Slow-paced and cozy and So Much Sweetness. BUT. The ending felt like four episodes cut down to two, and from what I understand the production ran out of money and couldn’t end it the way they wanted. A shame really, because I really love the story as a whole
I like the leads and the acting, but the story has it’s share of plain stupidity in the beginning, with FL being a bit of a nutcase. She’s secretly in love for years, wacking ML in the head with this in one full on confession and then giving him absolutely zero room for clarifications or reciprocating. She accused him of leading her on and giving her the wrong idea, but it was basically him not acknowledging his own feelings and when he does she’s just cold, rude and acts like it’s him obsessed with her. Poor man
