the show is crucially centered around their relationship and ties to each other, I am baffled by other comments saying it isn't???? from the very start their lives end up intertwined and, of the four main characters, taynew's characters' bond is the one that is given the most emotional depth and screentime. they have a significant amount of very notable scenes together every single episode, episode 6 particularly was so specifically focused on their relationship and was the entire emotional core of it. (there are also a significant amount of romantic undertones and BL type tropes but that's a whole other post)
tl; dr It's a very well-made show in and of itself and even if it was purely just an ensemble series where their relationship didn't matter that much I would recommend watching it, but their relationship is EXTREMELY crucial and central to the story and seems like it's going to definitely stay that way.
