Ahh you put it in such a great way! They have amazing chemistry but Kido's love wasn't like Kijima's and he felt more of an obsession from him and didn't want to commit, making Kijima into the man he is in Pornographer. Even though Kido does love him in some aspect (as you see in the first and last episodes), they are not meant to be together and Kijima needs a healthier relationship and to grow away from Kido.

I watched it first without subs and you can clearly tell that Kijima loves Kido, even in the ending scene when he stops smiling at Kuzumi..It makes me have mixed feelings about this relationship, but hopefully it ends well. Either with Kuzumi and letting go of his past with Kido or with Kido if he ever gets his act together and letting Kuzumi go since he will always have that flame with Kido. *sigh*
