Title Beyond Evil
I need help guys. Started this drama today due to all of the good reviews I see here. I am on ep 5 and I am still…
Honestly, episodes 1-5 are mostly setup to episode 7-8. I encourage you to watch Episode 7 (very exciting episode) then decide to drop it!

Me too... I'm holding off until Hospital Playlist 2 in June and hopefully that can hold me over until the next great drama lol

No, they are not related. Shin Ha Kyun’s sister has the same name, but she is not an actress.
No problem!

I had no idea Shin Ha Kyun was Shin Hye Sun's brother. What a talented family!

The haters on this page are repeat offenders who wrote similar nonsense weeks ago.

If you can't connect the dots and read between the lines, then Beyond Evil is not for you. The people who love this show have done the thinking and connected the dots for themselves.
The creators of Beyond Evil didn't make this show to be easy viewing. The complexity is why it's beautiful.

Beyond Evil is for independent thinkers who notice the details, who appreciate good writing/directing/acting, who reflect on what they have seen, who feel for the misery the characters are going through.

The Level 1 questions are, "Who's the killer?" "How did they kill them?"

But the REAL question, the more important question the writers want you to think about is, "How have these events affected us and how will we live with it?"

If you want to watch more sensationalized violence, red herrings that have zero meaning other than to distract the viewer and plot twists with no underlying emotional connections, Beyond Evil is NOT the show for you.

If you want to watch a straight police procedural, US shows like NCIS: SVU will be perfect for you.

Stop coming to this page to hate on Beyond Evil just because you don't understand it. The rest of us DO understand, and that's why we love it.

Title Beyond Evil Spoiler
Wait what??I am not that smart to be able to write long comments like yours... But one thing is for sure.. I do…
To me, this writer is doing something fresh and different. This writer is breaking away from the current trend of writing by focusing on the perspective of Dongshik and not put the focus on the killer. Too many recent shows make the killer the star aka movies like Joker.

The director has always said even though this is a crime thriller, the focus of the drama is on the characters. She said that is why people watch dramas. She said action is cool and fun to watch, but at the core of the drama, people watch when they are invested in the characters, they want to understand and see what happens to them. I 100% agree with her.

Beyond Evil isn't one of those shows where a crime happens, detectives gather clues and BAM the killer is captured and says why they did everything - the end nothing more nothing less. That kind of show is fun the first time, but not the second, third, fourth time. Let's take BBC's Sherlock for example: The first time I watched Sherlock, I watched it for the basic plot. But the reason I wanted to watch it again and again was not to see who did it. I wanted to see the relationship develop between Sherlock and Watson. How Irene Adler comes and shakes up Sherlock's world. How Sherlock and Moriarty play with each other's minds. The crime itself is just a tool.

I'm not that curious about knowing the killer's motives beyond what has already been shown (growing up as a prostitute's son being ridiculed, women pointing fingers at him, his prostitute "wife" using him as a tool to drop off her baby even though it's not his baby, etc).

Finding out why killer did it is only one part of this drama. The other part, the more important part, is how the crimes affect the characters internally and with each other, especially Dongshik. That emotional turmoil is the reason I am watching this drama. The downward spiral Dongshik goes through after finding out this guy he's known all these years killed his friend's mom, the noona he knew, his girl he treated like his niece.. How could he have not known!! The anger Dongshik feels at himself and KJM. Then KJM telling him he didn't kill his sister so now he still has to live with that unknown. How those emotions drive Dongshik's thoughts and actions. That is why I am watching.

I watched all the episodes multiple times already, and when I re-watched it, I realized the writer DID put many hints in place throughout the drama. I just didn't know what I was looking for, but when I watch it a second or third time, I see it.

I love that they don't explain things to me verbally, but I 100% understand it visually. This drama is excellent at showing not telling. I get annoyed when characters explain things just so the audience "gets it". Because if I see it, I'll get it and I don't need them to say it.

Can you please suggest a drama that is almost like this one?
- I think Beyond Evil is the best drama I've seen in this crime thriller genre, but The Good Detective is an excellent drama (my top 2 of 2020 along with Hot Stove League) - great writing and acting!!
- Stranger is also really good, but the tone is different because while there are lots of emotions in Beyond Evil, there is almost none in Stranger.
- I heard Flower of Evil is very good but I haven't seen it.
- Now there are many Korean films that are more similar to Beyond Evil! Harder to find dramas

commenting to check out the suggestions after watching the ones you recommended me in another comment :)
Stranger 2 has a LOT of politics which was ok for me, but other people seemed to be bored by it.

I feel kind of sad for people who dropped this early on... this thing already hit what for most shows is the ultimate…
I have no idea but it will be glorious.

The name of the drama is horrible (Beyond Evil).
The real Korean title is Monster which I think works better. They say in the drama: “If you want to catch a monster, you have to become the monster.”
