episode 12: why does the ml suddenly have white hair in the mortal realm. What is that about? lol
Here's a reddit post that explains it pretty well: https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/comments/14b45ak/silverwhite_hair_what_does_it_mean/?rdt=64201

The TLDR is that it can happen to characters because of things like: extreme stress/grief or loss of cultivation/power. It might also be that the character is old or born with white hair naturally. In this case, it's just to show how much grief and pain CK is in after XY's death.

It's a pretty common trope in xianxias and wuxias.

Seriously this drama already has many negativity before starting. A costume drama to be exact. At this point in…
No, I completely get it. LLTG was such a big hit because it had a great cast, director, script, and production team that knew what they were doing, and it showed in the final result. I really want her to have another costume drama of LLTG quality but I'm keeping my expectations low for now based on what I've seen so far. I'll just hope that there's a talented ML and a well written script that's worth a 6 month wait. Lusi will be good as usual but even good actors can't save poor writing :')

And we don’t even know if this source is reliable or not..
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Chinese shopping apps so I can't look for the pearl listing myself. As for the director, Xie Ze has been attached to this project for as long as Lusi has so I think it's reasonable to consider the possibility that he's the actual director

Seeing some bad news about Pearl Curtain on Twitter. Apparently the photo of the pearl they used in the promotional posters is taken from some e-commerce listing which is NOT a good look for the production company. I also have no hope for the director, Xie Ze, considering how terrible the editing and cinematography in Romance of a Twin Flower was. He had talented leads like Ding Yuxi and Peng Xiaoran and still messed it up. I really want this to have ADOS level script + production so I'm hoping we get some better news soon 😭. Lusi deserves better

Change male lead. Wang Ziqi, Ao Ruipang are not popular enough to act with Zhao Lusi. Why Male lead popularity…
I prefer it this way, especially when it comes to female centric dramas. Traffic/popular MLs have huge fandoms which usually results in fan wars and people purposely downrating a drama just to hate on one of the actors. There's also the risk of the producers changing the drama's storyline from the novel's to center around the ML instead, which is what happened to WRTW. Like someone said below, her CPs with less popular MLs like Ding Yuxi, Liu Yuning, and Chen Zheyuan have all been well received, so I don't think it's something to worry about.

Based on the trailers, does anyone know if Dilraba and Gong Jun are dubbing themselves in this one? I'm a big fan of actors voicing their own characters

Rumor : CZY already has schedule to start "White Olive Tree" / 白色橄榄树 at the end of July. If it's true,…
LYN and CZY have had great chemistry with Lusi but if they're not available then I'd love to see CXX as the ML!

Title Hidden Love Spoiler
Wow, the scene were Sang Zhi first meets Duan Jia Xu in ep 1 was so uncomfortable...I mean girl is hardly some…
They mention that she's 14 when DJX and her brother are leaving. Sang Yan even makes fun of her for being short for her age. So she's still young but not that young lol

Its her voice! She dubbed herself in all last dramas (LLTG, Gen Z, Hu Tong and her next xianxia Shen Yin she also…
She did a great job in LLTG and TROTAR (didn't watch the others) so I'm glad to hear that she's also voicing herself here. I do prefer her natural speaking voice to the one she's using now but I'm guessing she's doing that to show the difference between young Sang Zhi and adult Sang Zhi. Anyways, I'm excited for ep7 and the debut of her grown up self (+ more of the romance <3)!!

Is Zhao Lusi dubbed in this? She was dubbed in the Long Ballad and the voice here sounds similar to me. I was really hoping to hear her own voice like we did in the trailers :(

Does anyone know if they lowered the 7 year age gap from the novel? I'd be surprised if censorship didn't force them to change it lol

ah I think they were supposed to be fox ears (as she is a 7 tailed fox)
I was minutes away from that reveal when I made my original comment haha. Very cute touch though!

I think you've misunderstood my original comment. I meant it as in her tone and delivery stay relatively the same throughout the drama, even when she matures near the end. If it's something that bothers you in the beginning, then you'll have to learn to tolerate it because, in my opinion, there really isn't much change in how her voice sounds. Of course I don't expect an actor's voice to change drastically throughout a drama. It's just something I'm bringing up because other comments I've seen said that her voice matured over time, when I felt like that wasn't the case.

That's not a dig at the actress, of course. I'm just personally not a fan of how her voice sounds. There are plenty of people who would disagree with me and that's perfectly fine. Everyone is free to have their own opinions :).

Reset is also a great modern drama with light romance. It's around the same length as a kdrama if you're looking for something shorter. Go Ahead is also a very well done slice of life/family centered modern drama.

I also really liked the FL in Who Rules the World, but thought the show was underwhelming compared to the original novel.

If you like BLs: The Untamed, Word of Honor. I haven't watched them yet, but they both seem to be well received.

These are some of my favourite cdramas I've watched so far (all costume/historical).
In no particular order: A Dream of Splendor, The Story of Minglan, Rise of Phoenixes, Nirvana in Fire, New Life Begins, Love Like the Galaxy, Joy of Life, Story of Yanxi Palace, Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace

Yanxi & Ruyi are both palace/harem dramas, so expect scheming & politics. Out of the two, I would say that Yanxi Palace is the 'lighter' watch.

New Life Begins is the fluffiest drama out of all of these. Pretty low on the politics if you're not into that but overall it's a mouthful of sugar. Strong bond between the FMCs too! I've seen some people say that the female empowerment was too 'over the top', but I still really enjoyed it. Nice change of pace from other dramas.

If you're looking for a good balance between plot and romance, go for A Dream of Splendor (mature & communicating couple) or Love Like the Galaxy (very flawed characters, but that's what I like about it). I would say Minglan (same author as LLTG) also falls into this category, but it's even more of a slowburn than LLTG. Minglan is definitely more calm/mature than the FL in LLTG though. Romance is also beautifully done in Rise of Phoenixes, but I would say the plot is heavier. It kind of falls during the last 10ish episodes, but absolutely still worth watching.

Nirvana in Fire isn't really a romance (more bromance I would say) but it's an iconic cdrama and also very very well written. It's a 9.4 on Douban (chinese review platform that rates its domestic dramas quite harshly) too which is practically unheard of. Joy of Life also has less of a focus on romance, but it's another great drama! I did find the FMCs to be less developed than their male counterparts though.

All of the dramas I've mentioned have great cinematography and acting so I'd definitely give them all a try. I hope you find one that you like :)

I usually watch kdramas. But I really wanted to watch it because of the high rating and beautiful scenography.…
These types of childish/naive FLs are quite common in this particular genre of cdramas (xianxia) where they cultivate, go through trials & tribulations, and eventually mature as the series progresses. I did find that Orchid matured as we neared the end of the drama, but to be honest I was also not a fan of watching an adult woman acting like a literal child in the beginning, even if it 'fit her character'. As for the FL's voice, it unfortunately stays the same the whole way through (as well as in her other dramas) so if you find it grating now you'll likely find it to be grating later on, or I did at least. Once I learned to tolerate all that, I did enjoy the drama. Nice CGI and I found their relationship to be very sweet later on. If you don't like it, however, I would recommend you drop it. Too many good dramas out there to force yourself to slag through one to get to the good parts (especially since that may not even be guaranteed).

As for your second question, it really depends. In these types of idol dramas (where, let's be real, the actors are cast for their visuals & following), then yes. Of course that's not true for all of them, but with so many cdramas pumped out every year it does seem like a decent chunk of them are filled with these types of MCs.

If you're looking for cdramas with mature/strong characters, then I'd be happy to recommend some. Those just happen to be some of my favourites :)
