It is not only you, I also feel the same! I cannot help but feel disappointed in the changes made to his character. Like you have mentioned, in the novel, ZSC is a collected and confident character, and even though he is inexperienced with love, his approach did not feel as "lost" compared to how the drama has portrayed. To me, ZSC has so much character, very distinctive and attractive, yet I did not see that ZSC in the drama. I really hope we will be able to see the ZSC from the novel later in the drama.
Ren Jialun is perfect for this role. I really hope they will not waste such fit and make good use of an excellent actor with a very charismatic character.

How to say this...although she is trying to show a variety of expressions, her face is stiff. Cheng Xiao is a cute girl but that is not the point here. She had quite a few main roles but her acting has not improve from her previous works.

Everyone have their own preferences and standards. Honestly I had so much expectations coming into this drama, the director is from Love and Redemption, the leading actors are Dong Yu and Xu Kai, and this is an S+ xianxia, but after five episodes, I got really bored and started skipping around. I am truly disappointed...I skipped around from episode five to fourteen, and I am feeling more that the leads do not fit their roles. I will be dropping this drama :/
