I have only finished two episodes, but I want to share my first impression of this drama. I have seen previous works of the two actors, and they are both very good actors. Unfortunately, I think Zhou Dong Yu's acting in here is awkward so far; this could be the case because Ancient Love Poetry is her first historical drama. In the case of Xu Kai, I am not fond of his hairstyle, but his acting is really good so I am indifferent about his hair now. Moreover, I believe his acting is the reason there is some sort of chemistry between them. I noticed the camera work is cutting off scenes abruptly and jumping back and forth from each characters which ruins the quality of the drama. Lastly, the CGI looks very different from all of the xianxia dramas that I have watched, so I am looking forward to seeing something different this time.
I feel Xuanji is a very complex character; she started out without her senses then gained them later in the drama. Moreover, she is the God of War who is cold and ruthless. I think the actress, Yuan Bingyan portrayed the character very naturally, both as the innocent Xuanji and the Xuanji after gaining her six senses. I noticed that Xuanji follows Sifeng in his actions a lot, not to mention that he taught her a lot of things, if not most. As for the crying scenes, I watched the behind the scenes on Weibo where her real voice was used and it was nothing like her voice in the drama...I really wished they kept her real voice...there are definitely more emotions conveyed in Bingyan's real voice.
Became a fan of the actress after watching this drama! Love and Redemption completely stole my heart since last year. Wishing both actors the best in their career!
