These ghosts linger and cannot be satisfied until they're exorcised. They remain perpetually hungry for food but unable to eat. You have probably noticed that people leave food for the dead to honor them, this is because the sharing of food and nutrition is very important, even in death.
Anyway I guess you could probably liken it in the west to Christians who believe in and are terrified of demons, or even Muslims who believe in and are terrified of djinn.

Now for me though, I have the worlds cheesiest sense of humor so I literally laugh at everything. XD I think this is great!
