if you look at the creators' previous work, (director and original creator) it includes The Last Immortal, Ancient Love Poetry, The Long Ballad, Story of Kunning Palace. Basing on how these cdramas ended, there's hope for a happy ending but you'll definitely cry/be angry throughout the series.

nope. i was personally annoyed since the first ep of TTEOM so mostly watched it in 2x. ✌🏻 so far, this is not annoying instead this is interesting. can't be sure in the next eps tho.

casual cdrama watcher here. this is a decent watch. plot seems to be still logical and interesting. no annoying, non sensible characters yet. everyone shines on their own, though i'm amazed by au rui peng so far. he has dylan wang's dongfang qincang aura in this drama. he's carrying his character so well. probably a fantasy-costume drama where bailu has not coughed up blood in every episode. 🤭 it also has non-skippable opening and ending credits because it's just so pretty.
that opening theme makes me feel this will not have a happy ending. but ep 1 feels like that scene from Goblin when he gave her a mark. and then it goes with the reincarnation!! crazy opening episodes.

If you've seen interviews of Esther for the bts of this show, you'd know the reason why she looks "displeased" throughout the show. the bad experience they had was so unecessary that i'm quite sure esther and zhang linghe are now traumatized of working with that male director. the director fat shamed her while filming his show. she had to put her face in the mud multiple times while filming this in winter season. the romantic/kiss scenes they cannot even do right because both ML and FL are freezing in the cold. she specifically said that in the interview. that it was one of the regrets that she has while filming mjty. they were freezing so they can't even concentrate on showing the right emotions.
this is also the same director that put tian jia rui in freezing water while filming Fangs of Fortune. (see bts of him literally shaking from the cold).
