This drama may not be the best, but I found myself enjoying watching it, waiting for the broadcast every day,…
I completely agree — chemistry between the leads is so crucial. Looking back at recent dramas I’ve watched, the intense chemistry between the ML and FL in Prisoner of Beauty made an already amazing drama even better. By contrast, the lack of it in A Dream Within a Dream was a real pity, since the show itself was very funny and entertaining.
I agree with others that the last three episodes felt very odd and out of sync with the rest of the drama. The emperor had been portrayed as wise and fair, so it was inconsistent for him to suddenly block their marriage for national security, only to change his mind again — what happened to his earlier concern about them joining forces to betray him? YH’s death also felt senseless. Such a shame. If I remember correctly, these changes deviated from the book. :(
I dropped this drama after episode 6. The FL’s overly naïve, ‘I just want to pick flowers and everything is peachy’ persona quickly became grating. On the plus side, she did look a lot younger and fresh-faced than in Coroner’s Diary. The second ML looked middle-aged in demeanor, which felt mismatched for the role. His pasty white complexion didn't help either.
So I remember when they talked about when they tried to find Tongshuang that they could only find his bracelet.…
I didn't suspect TS until EP. 31 - that creepy, happy, crazed look in his eyes just before he's "killed". How could that be a normal reaction when huge rocks are about to fall on you? !
Julia Xiang ruins the show for me — I was looking forward to more action scenes with Wang Xing Yue, but thanks to her poisoning him, he’s too sick to even walk quickly! To make matters worse, she’s one of the least compelling female leads I’ve seen in a C-drama, both in looks and presence.
Any recommendations for other good dramas based on online books? I find those adaptations can be some of the best. Thank you!
