The show began with such a bounce and pop!!
Crisp editing, buildup of story and then came crashing down like a limp balloon tied to a rock, hashing up a forced story around an older woman trapped in a shitty marriage.

There was nothing that was a pop and buzz when introducing the FL storyline.. The dialogues were flat, the actress uninteresting in the role she played, there was no dramatic interest in her line when she is presented..

The forced meet up at the restaurant..there was no crackle in the married couple that would make one root for her.. Such a dull unimaginative way to show a failing marriage.

Such a dull way to hold up and script a noona drama..
The FL is unbelievably boring!!!
How long was the show thinking of riding on Xian Zhan's charisma and looks...one would find better time pass watching YouTube BTS / drama clips of his.

Feel sorry that XZ got vamped by the drama.. Watch him in The Youth Memories - if you want solid scripting, riveting characters, brilliant directing and acting. Wanna see failed marriages and how they occur.. It'll be in that drama.

This was such a shallow one.

Dropped it at Ep 1

Oh now I see that the show is The Youth Memories. I have not seen it.
Oh Yessssssss!
It was .. for me ;-p

It's a large canvas, multiple couples, ensemble cast that spans some 3 decades in their lives.

SLICE OF LIFE .. historical .. idealistic .. heart twisty REALITY bites ..
So many Old -Gao sort of self absorbed 'weak - self doubting - foolish' characters, trapped in their own follies.

Am going to visit the discussion thread of the show and see what others are saying ;-p

That doesn't mean the L&P won't be visited by me after this.

To fill the dullness post ending of TYM I watched Episode 16 of L&P and ONCE again wondered HOW are people reading Li Xun's character as 'toxic' or a 'red flag' .. He is anything but.

Am going to write another long rebuttal against that reading of his character .. AND each time I realize WHAT AN AWESOME good actor Chen Fei Yu is .. in this.

Oh now I see that the show is The Youth Memories. I have not seen it.
Finished it.

9.5/10

0.5 deducted only because it couldn't shake off it's "national pride / the patriotic parrotings througout the show when it could have incorporated it in context of the period of time covered.. "

It's not unexpected that CDramas are often vehicles of "advertising for the party + govt" - so I had decided to wear a lens that automatically adjusted for it - so that I could enjoy the "human - stories" and get a peek (albeit rose tinted) of China Rising moment covering roughly 30/35 years in the lives of half a dozen friends during their Moment under the sun.

After a long long long hunt - of previewing more than dozen (supposedly top rated CDrama show) I finally found a fabulous meaty one.

This is for
@kinara
@twinty
@MusicalVeggies
@Dia
@vlees
@firstsnow_55

And all those stuck in rewatch mode in L&P and yet looking to move on to something equally classy and meaningful - read on 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Just started it.. And am hooked.
It's so cinematic - a period piece.

"The Youth Memories" on Viki

Brilliant Script - Editing - mind blowing cinematography (sepia tones) - ensemble cast...and the discovery of some SOLID set of highly talented FLs and MLs.

Will come back here to update how it goes.

It feels like I am watching a high quality HBO / Netflix funded serial.

Check it out and see if you enjoy it.

TOTALLY different from L&P but has a promising flavour. Am into it BIG time now.

Have reached Ep 4 of "The Youth Memories"
FINALLY A STRONG ENOUGH show to make me move on...give it a try

I just finished this. Now I am heartbroken :(. Can anyone suggest any drama to get over this L&P hangover, please?

LOL..It's not going to be fun to watch just for knowing the plot points of the drama - for that reading a 5 lines…
I hope you read the interpretations I made from the show - would like to hear what you think

😁
Still would be interesting to hear the interpretations of the drama that led to labeling the romance toxic.

It's OK if it was just a gut reaction (it happens to all of us - we can't always pinpoint why) but if there was a reasoning behind the assumption of "toxic" would be interesting to hear.

Or better still : what does word "toxic" mean to us.
What are it's symptoms and effects as it shows up in a relationship.

Just curious for conversation sake 🙂

🤣😂
Here's a funny thing I want to share - I am having fun hangjng here relieving my joy of L&P with all the other fans and L&P addicts in lieu of watching any other drama (as I said.. Nothing else has come my way to grip me as much).

Let me also share that I found Lighter and Princess accounts on Instagram - what a treasure trove of BTS and scenes we all LOVED and fan MVs

The show is so much better than I thought it would be. I love the many scenes where the actors just look into…
And have you noticed.. Even their dialogue with each other is never really direct..they are always talking tangentially and yet get each other..ONLY in the MOST deeply emotional scenes of connecting with each other does Zhu Yun use direct words to tell him her feelings.. Li Xun is able to do that ONLY twice or thrice in the WHOLE SHOW!!

- to utter I Love you JUST once (pre-jail)
- to tell her in UNEQUIVOCAL terms that Zhu Yun for him was the MOST important thing in his life and nothing else measured up to that (Ep 35? / 36) and he was willing to drop everything else for getting her back.

That teasing indirect joking buddy sort of relationship was at once intense and playful that no amount of "direct love talk" could hold up to. 🤪
