Your review is interesting and honestly I've been looking for an outlet where I can let my emotions out after watching HS1. And your review came perfectly as it's a recent review. I just finished rewatching this reality show.
To be honest I was sooooo sad of the ending. I feel sad especially for Juwon after learning they didn't choose each other. But after learning he got married in 2018 it make sense why Yoonkyoung and Juwon weren't meant for each other. I was happy for Juwon he found someone but now that it seems like as according to rumor as he posted to his instagram his marriage is on the rocks and on the brink of divorce, I can't help but feel sad.
Let's talk about Jihye. Contrary to your belief, I don't think Jihye is that manipulative. To me, she was just herself such that talking while the mouth's full and showing enthusiasm in everything. To me it's just her personality. But I do agree she's pretentious such that when Serin came first to the house, her reaction says a lot. She pretends to like Serin when she felt Serin's way below her. She was belittling Serin. Seungwook too showed distaste when Serin entered the house. Anyway, I don't see why they like Jihye. I don't find her attractive in Season 1 but in Season 2 definitely she is.
Serin is my most favorite character in the show. She's adorable and charming. I just love her so much and I was actually hoping she find her match but I don't approve of her choice. I don't see why she likes Cheon probably because of Cheon's kind words that he's comfortable with her and that she has soothing personality. In South Korean standard she's liberal and not girly-like, so she's not attractive in their taste. To me if I were a boy, I would sure fall for her but I don't know though if I'm a Korean male, will I like her. It's actually about background. And to me leaning to Western values, I like Serin.
I love Yoon Kyoung. There's something in her that I found loveable. I love the time how she exert effort to show Jiwon how she likes him especially when she went to Yeongnam and cooked food for him. I find Yoon kyoung sophisticated to be honest. She's my type. I got a crush on her. Now with Yoon Kyoung, I do really feel that she likes Cheon from the very start however things at first didn't go her way as Jihye is putting fences on Cheon. So she decided to take the theme park date. She picked her second choice, Jiwon. I believe Cheon made her heart skip a beat because she blushed twice with Cheon and she's more open to Cheon. Also, if there was no malice of her going out with Cheon that night they met accidentally in bus stop, she wouldn't hide it from Juwon. If it was nothing, she would share it with Juwon instead she said "nothing special" as if telling, convincing herself it's nothing. I knew Jiwon was the second choice because of proximity. You can tell how a person likes you if she/he wants to get near you. In the living room, twice, Yoon kyoung choose to be seated beside Cheon. If it wasn't for Serin telling her to sit beside Jiwon, she wouldn't. To me that speaks a lot. So I understand the frustration and discontentment Jiwon is feeling towards Yoon Kyoung and their date each time. I really think that Yoon Kyoung is consciously choosing Jiwon but her heart and attraction is really towards Cheon. I happen to observe during Cheon and Yon Kyoung's first date, Kyoung's posture is leaning forward. That means she's interested. She's also asking question which shows curiousity with Cheon. Meanwhile, her posture towards Jiwon, is somehow tilting backwards showing not so much interest and she doesn't ask much question. I also understand why Juwon shifted towards Jihye and see what's in it for him on the other side. Because he felt betrayed by Yoon Kyoung.
If I were to pick a man among the four, I would really pick Hyeon-chan. To me he's the most appealing. He's manly, romantic and sophisticated. He just don't know how to express himself.
I don't like Seungwook at all. To me his personality is rowdy and attention-seeker. He's selfish too. To think that he told Ara if you're confused I'll let you go. That's too much. She didn't consider Ara,'s feelings. He's also insensitive during the double date with Jihye and Cheon alienating Ara. To me, he's a walking red flag. So I wasn't surprised when he was sentenced of sexual assault.
I don't like Cheon at all. Probably because I can sense he's a player. He gets women's attention by showering them one and he hella sure knows how to do it. And he's very shallow. He choose his love interest based on looks. I get that it should be attraction first but yk to me I have a different opinion. To me personality matters more especially if you're in your thirtys. I also don't like how he provokes Jiwon to act cold towards Yoon Kyoung. To me, it's evil. I agree with the woman panelist, that was bad just to squeeze in between those cracks between Kyoung and Jiwon.
I got neutral feels for Ara. She's pretty but that's it. I'm not really that hooked on her. But I couldn't understand why she still chose Seungwook despite he's a walking red flag. To me her date with Hyeong Chan and Seungwook where they went fishing together and where Seungwook acting crazy fool for her gave me discomfort.
Juwon came to me as my surprised most loved character. Perhaps because of his vulnerability I came to love him. He's really a gentle guy acting tough but really he has a soft heart. I totally understand all his actions. I also love how he couldn't hide his emotions to the camera. I felt the feelings were raw which made me love the show more. I was so invested with Yoon Kyoung and Jiwun's almost love story. In the end I was so sad for them coz if it worked out, it could be them marrying each other. But you know if you come to think of it, they're not on the same wavelength. Kyoung is not enthusiastic with him and is not open with him. That made him feeling frustrated and that's why he's whining.
This show really affected me so much. Also during their reunion, I agree. Kyoung is still affected by it but Jiwon I could see he had already moved on.
But yk I have to make at peace of myself and have to accept that Juwon and Kyoung aren't meant for each other. It stings but they didn't choose to be together and you're right, their attraction for each other isn't enough for them to take risk and act fool in the name of love. Juwon is just too afraid to be rejected by Kyoung. His ego is just too large to handle rejection.
In 2018, during the season 2 filming, I could sense that Cheon and Kyoung aren't in good terms. They're just awkward with each other. I happen to observe that because Cheon's face was focused by the camera which means they ended dating in 2018, after a year. Objectively speaking, I hate to admit but Cheon and Kyoung have chemistry. They're just on the same wavelength.
