Esther Yu's roles were built on "cute, naive, aegyo-faced" vibes. I'm not saying that it's wrong — if that's what she's good at then obviously that's what she should do. Whether it's Orchid (Love between Fairy and Devil), Yue Qi (Sword and Fairy) or Lin Yu (Love Game in Eastern Fantasy), literally all of her characters have always been supposed to be cute, naive and aegyo-faced. And she does it well, that's her thing.
Zhao Lusi is someone who has played fun, serious, badass, cute and many more roles and we've already seen her acting range. We haven't really seen what Esther Yu can do since she's literally only ever played the same type of role.
So clearly, it's pointless to compare them. Zhao Lusi is an actress who has a large acting range. Esther Yu is an actress who only ever played one type of role.

I don't hate Esther Yu nor am I a fan. In fact, I think she's an amazing choice for the roles she played. I think it's stupid to compare Zhao Lusi and Esther Yu. We've seen Zhao Lusi play serious roles, fun roles, cute roles, badass roles — we've seen her huge acting range. The thing is, all of Esther Yu's characters are literally built around the "cute, naive, aegyo-faced" vibe and if that's what she's good at, then that's what she should do. And it's also hard to judge if she's good or not since we've literally never seen her play anything else.
