just finished this and another drama where I left just shaking my head at the stupidness of it all. It started out kind of interesting - I did love the whole catapults scene at the beginning - but it quickly went off the rails.
No romance really to speak of
A FL who you basically want to slap upside head for most of the dram - she has NO character growth whatsoever, never takes responsibility for her bad choices and she is kinda mean. Not sure why the writers thought this is what a FL we should like looks like - cause it didnt work..
She is supposed to be this genius business woman - but she views it in a vacuum. Most good business people understans the politics surrounding their business - she basically just wanted to ignore it. She even acknowledges at one point that doing business with the 2ML will put a target on her back, but she chooses to do it anyway, cause only money matters, and then complains incessantly that she has a target on her back. I was like, girl - so much of this mess is your own doing.
Her miopic obsession about money got old quick and she just kept repeating the same mistakes.
With the rest of you - so over the forced kissing - just needs to stop and is not romantic in the slightest.
The only schtick that kinda worked was the husband constantly getting beat up - he so deserved it!

We got a seductress/assassin - who cant really assassin (seriously, only 1 fight scene in the entire drama and she just stands there helpless) - really only good at the seductress part. And even that, the ML has to instruct on how to actually seduce a man.
We got a ML who falls in love with said assassin/seductress who happens to be spittin' image of his mom (eeew, gross!)
Got a 2ml who is in-love with the ML's mother (ok, gross and not really sure how THAT works!)
The usual cray-cray/horrible dad emperor
The usual raging/blind revenge story where the main character doesnt have all the facts (mostly based on assumptions) - but I remember a smell! - so, as soon as I find the person who smells like that - they HAVE to be the one - only to get it wrong, TWICE (seriously, one of the more ridiculously stupid scenarios I have watched). And, even though I have been trained as an assassin, I am gonna run around and make impulsive decisions all over the place that dont work out and I have to bailed out in some manner. 🤦‍♀️

I would say I liked this more than I disliked it an, overall, I enjoyed watching it. But a few things just didnt work for me.
1. The 1st body-swap went on way, way too long and didnt really move the story forward too much for how much time they spent on it. It becomes more interesting once they figure out how to use. Wish they had spent more time with it this way, instead of the dragging out of the first swap.
2. The U Hui character was just weird - she starts off pretty evil (the whole killing rampage thing just makes her kind if unredeemable) - they they go and try and redeem her - but it just doesnt work. I had a hard time watching her - no facial expression, not sure if it was a filtering issue or something else - but just a weird plastic face that showed no emotions anywhere. It's like they had this character and they weren't sure what to do with her. Either make her go all bad and go after her dad and be ambitious or dont - but they tried to thread the needle and it just doesnt work and she just becomes a pretty unlikeable character that we wish the Grand Prince would run far, far away from.
3. What was the point of the gun? They make a big deal out of it the beginning and then do nothing with it - another waisted post line.
4. Same goes for the whole shoot arrows in the rain - cool scene, but they do nothing with this.
5. Starts of pretty interesting and I liked the lead actors. but it drags down through the middle and the body-swap, picks back up after they swap back - but then the story just gets messy, cause now they are rushing through back stories and other things because they spent too much time on the body-swap part.
6. Have to say - a bit disappointed in the villains ending - kind of anti-climatic.
All that being said - its totally worth a watch and the OST from Song SoHee is AMAZING!

I was just thinking that as I was was watching and conetmplating dropping! It also bugged me from the get-go of her reborn era - she wasn't that smart in her previous life and somehow she becomes this master strategist once reborn - just didnt fit. And then she keeps making bad moves. ugh!

If you enjoy super-slow (like molasses), slice-of-life dramas - you might enjoy this. If not, I wouldn't recommend you watch this - you will be incredibly frustrated.
For a drama that was promoted as a coming-of-age romance - there is practically no romance until the VERY end. This is basically watching a bunch of friends in a small town go through their senior year in high-school, throw in some family melo-drama, rush an adult get-together in the last two episodes and there you have it.
Now, sometimes a slice-of-life can be interesting - but this just got so repetitive after a while and loses steam.
FL was overly wise of her age (like, too much), ML is pretty typical green light guy, but tsundere and it's the FL who pull shim out of his shell - nothing new here.
They do a somewhat good job of some emotional growth for the FL - she gets introduced as a raging, city-girl, rich girl brat and she does grow - but she never really loses that princess attitude.
First reunion after separation was just weird and awkward - not sure what writers were going for there.
And, ultimately the payout of waiting patiently for 28+ episodes for them to actually get together was kind of disappointing. it was rushed and just a slight sizzle (mostly because the FL needs to work on her kissing/intimate scenes skills - I have seen worse , but this wasn't that great).

it was ok - not great or memorable, but worth the watch.
I liked the all the actors - just felt the script didnt work
Why introduce the FL as the Gil Dong thief - she's this amazing archery expert, can fight with a sword and, can apparently, break into anywhere and then they barely did anything with it - such a missed opportunity.
The body-swap part didnt work for me - just NEVER felt like they actually swapped - neither actor made me feel they were the other one - didnt help that they kept switching back to original characters whenever they were alone and having convos - it made it so confusing.
Could have done more with her Dad's story
Let the villains off waaaayyy too easy.
The Im Jae I character was probably the most interesting.
I dont know the name of the song or the singer - but whatever that OST that was going on when they were trying to be romantic with the leads - sooooo annoying. it was so loud and just felt like she was yelling - totally ruined the mood - which was a shame, cause there weren't that many of them.
Which leads to - you give the title of To My Beloved Thief - as if its going to be some romantic story and then have almost NO romance - boo on you writers!
Cant say I thought this was a good pairing - I like both the actors - this just did not work - for numerous reasons. - part of it was she looks so much older than him, when the characters were probably around the same age. She never looks at him with any sort of longing - ever. They kinda get there at the end, but, by then - too late.

I dont think i commented on how any of the characters ended?? This is purely about a poor script and directing - if done well, one would not have to go rely on the novel. The story should do well enough on its own.

Yeah, i dont read the novels. I shouldnt have to and that is on the writers and directors. I watch a drama for the drama - not the novel.

Seriously - what the hell was that ending - soooo bad!
Beyond that, this is one of those dramas the I liked some of, didnt like other parts so much and a bit too draggy for me.
Highlights:
1. the main couple were adorable - once they got together, which took waaaayyy too long. I will give the ML a pass on the kissing, cause I know this is his first lead role in a romantic drama. But, FL - girl, you need to work on this a bit. That being said - they had good chemistry, had good communication and there was clear intimacy there.
2. Heir Apparent - kinda stole the show. Such a great character with lots of nuance and depth. Downside - he was not the ML and they spent waaayy too much time here.
3. her grandmother - what a beautiful relationship!
Not so much:
1. Time spent on the inner house of the Gu family - seriously too much time here - I didnt need the slice-of-life, dragging time spent with the Gu family, Would have been nice to know more about the Chen family (where they spent practically no time)
2. Not enough time on ML and his backstory - we learn tons about her, tons about the Heir - not so much on the ML.
3. Not enough time spent building the leads relationship - especially since they dont even get together until in the second half of the drama. They meet a couple of times, he has a few good looks at her and then bam! Marry me. It was just not plotted out well.
4. She spends waaaayy too much time thinking about the Heir - like, seriously, on her wedding nigh ffs!
Really nice costuming, and cinematography.
