if you haven’t read the manhwa, i encourage you to do so. the negative reviews are absolutely not exaggerated. people deserve adaptations that do the source material justice, and this show completely disrespected it in every way. the manhwa also tackles homophobia and takes place in conservative Korea, and homophobia is a large part of Heesu and Seungwons development. i agree that kissing scenes are not mandatory. there was not a kissing scene in season 1 of the manhwa, either. i agree, adaptations don’t have to be completely accurate, but this series is just badly written wattpad fanfiction that completely mischaracterizes all of the characters. i don’t think its right to make people feel bad for being disappointed. queer people in SK deserve authentic representation just like ANYBODY else does, and this series let them down.
my absolute favorite review so far. i read the manhwa as well, and have been insanely disappointed. i’m surprised people aren’t more angry. i genuinely find it impossible to believe an entire room of writers approved changing the sorce material in such a thoughtless way. honestly, it doesn’t even feel right that seungwon and heesu got together, because all of their moments together were written out for the most part. my heart breaks for these characters and this story. i find it hard to believe Lily Suzu agreed with these choices.
I thought I was the only one who mad an account just to share my disappointment at this series!!! LOL. You're definitely not alone in feeling frustrated. I rated it harsher than you did, and unfortunately dropped it (partially because I got bored) after I saw the direction it was headed in. I may finish it, but I don't regret saying what I did and I don't think I'll take it back. Your review is very fair, and you have every right to be disappointed! So many of us are disappointed with you.
