I couldn’t stand either the ML or the FL (but more for the FL, wanted to drop it so bad because of her).
The ML was frustratingly cowardly and clueless. For someone involved in such high-stakes work, his lack of resolve and the fact that he had 0 backup plans was surprising in a bad way, and it made his character feel inconsistent.
As for the FL, her actions were downright aggravating. Even if her backstory offers some explanation for her behavior, it doesn’t justify her taking the ML’s second phone and setting off a chain of events that spirals out of control. That one impulsive choice took away any empathy I might have had for her character from the get go.
