PROS - Well developed and diverse main characters with their own motivations, goals and issues. Their chemistry with each other is endearing and wholesome. - Tackles various social issues through the different meaningful and heartfelt cases. - There are five LGBT characters -- four female and one male. - Positive trans representation in a main role. - Explores how people deal with tough situations, decisions and loss while providing possible solutions and hope. - Great character development. - Excellent pacing.
CONS - Terrible GL story arc and representation. - Both of the main female LGBT characters will most likely end up with a man. - In all three of the main couples, one person from each is attached to someone else in some way.
Despite the cons, I am still a firm believer in the quality of the stories that ThaiPBS puts out. As mentioned in a previous comment, I really do think they tried to give us positive representation but may have some prejudices and blindspots that they are not aware of. It'll be problematic if it becomes a consistent pattern with them. But this is their first, so we'll see. *Fingers crossed*
If you go into this knowing the cons, this is still a great drama that anyone can get a lot from. I recommend watching it.
I got to ep4 and am putting it on hold at this point. May pick it up again, if I don't have anything else interesting to watch.
The trailer had me hyped, and I was really looking forward to this. The first two episodes were fun and well-paced. Then it just got boring from there.
Tonbun’s attraction to Phut wasn’t really well built-up imo. Because of this, their sweet scenes don’t really make me go “awww”. Her attraction to him makes sense, because she’s always admired and fangirled Khun Pi who she thinks he is.
You already know who the villain is and their motivation. It would have been better if they kept the person unknown to give this drama some element of mystery and surprise. Also, person gives off more of a petty villain vibe instead of badass or threatening.
The second couple (if they are a couple) are actually more interesting, but at this point, they don’t get a lot of screen time. And I think some people will probably find it weird that the sister might end up with someone who looks like her brother. Their couple is really fun and cute though otherwise.
I think the story itself is pretty great so far. It's unfortunate that it's behind a paywall and people are having to watch from other sources, but it is what is.
It has none of the usual problematic tropes that exist in GLs. Both Meena and Cherine have their own difficulties. With Meena, she doesn't come from money and goes to Bangkok in order to work and support her mom and brother. With Cherine, I'm not sure if there's going to be more for her story. So far, it's been about her disappointment with not having won in pageants and her ex.
I feel like they will both support each other in reaching their goals and fall in love while doing so. And honestly, that is all I want in a GL at this point after all the bad ones I've seen. Please just give me something meaningful without the usual problematic tropes and romanticized unhealthy relationships.
So far, their relationship seems to gradually be developing in a healthy manner. Personally, I much prefer a slower pace in that their attraction for each other is developing from slowly getting to know each other. When the kiss and love scene happens, I'll appreciate it that much more.
lol she taught him how to revenge in the end. That is oddly so cute and sweet hahaha. I absolutely loved how she went from living for revenge to living for helping other victims. How in her hell, there were people reaching out to help her with sincerity, and that for some of them, she became their reason for living.
The ML's mom screaming for her to help her son was so unexpected and was just the perfect timing and scene to have in this story. And best of all, in all this revenge, the victims regained some of their happiness and humanity in helping each other.
Boss Nawat is disappointed with the new subscriber count. I think it's around 10,000 as of March 9. I don't think that number is enough to recoup the cost of the production.
Thai fans are fighting to get this streamed free for more people to watch citing that it doesn't make sense for people to pay that price for one show when streaming platforms charge around the same but offer more content along with some other arguments. There's no way he doesn't know that the show is going to be provided for free on non-legitimate sites. So I guess there is some logic to his decision here. Maybe he'll release the whole series on Youtube after it ends.
It's still early, so the series should be available on other sites soon. Unfortunately, many people aren't going to be able to support it legitimately until it's released on Youtube. I don't think Boss Nawat can backtrack now and refund the thousands of subscribers who subscribed soley to watch the series but who knows.
The mood of this is like The Chef and competitiveness like Whiplash. Both great movies. The director and screenwriter of Girl From Nowhere is on this, so I'm hoping this will be good.
This the first time there are LGBT characters in a ThaiPBS drama that I'm aware of. I'm grateful for the representation. We have two main characters, and three side characters -- four female and one male. That's a lot of female LGBT representation from a fairly known Thai channel.
A few things I feel like could have been done better. The straight characters get more actual screen time with cases than the two main LGBT characters. It could be that Yoshi is busy with other things, but that doesn't explain why the other LGBT character has only dealt with one case by herself so far. Her main story arc involves being cheated on and not handling it in a professional manner. I would expect this kind of thing from Club Friday but not ThaiPBS. So for them to have a Club Friday-like story arc for the LGBT character actually really rubs me the wrong way. I understand she was cheated on, but it was not professional to confront the offender at the hospital while they were both on shift, and for them to subtly bring their drama into the OR. The straight characters do have their own drama that they bring into the hospital, but it's not about petty cheating relationship BS.
I'm not okay with being represented as privileged, emotional, wishy-washy, unethical and unprofessional.
Other than them needing to treat their LGBT characters the same way they do their straight ones, I think this is a pretty decent medical drama so far. I'm up to episode 7. I don't think the unequal treatment is intentional on ThaiPBS' part. I really think they're trying to give us representation, but subconsciously, there's still some subtle prejudice eeking out unfortunately.
This guy delivering a birthday cake to a patient at a hospital, looking like the plague doctor. I love it lol.
Tanman is someone who will be your substitute or do something in your place. Tan comes from the Thai word แทน (thaaen) pronounced "tan" which means to substitute, replace.
The real Anne is a young girl currently in a coma from attempted suicide. One of the reasons being from her chronic depression that may have stemmed from her overbearing mother and her dad's death. I don't know exactly how he died, but there is a flashback of her asking him to get her hat from the water when they were at the beach. The flashbacks with her dad suggest she was very close to him.
Pre-coma Anne didn't want to live in the real world and preferred to live in her mind. All the Annes are characters she's created in her mind in order to cope. They are people she either knows in real life (the therapist) or seen (the deer), idols (you see her scrolling through social media and there is a movie set of some sort), game character she's played (Anthony), etc.
All the Annes are trying to be the last Anne in order to escape what they're in. Anne Aokbab (the deer) ends up being the last one and finding out that there is no escape. The therapist tells Anne Aokbab about the real Anne being in a coma and how they're living in her mind. She believes that they all need to die in order to save the real Anne, so she stops living in her mind.
The ending is kinda open-ended depending on the viewer I guess. The real Anne wakes up, but there is a reflection of the deer in her eyes. Did she really wake up or is she still living in an endless loop in her mind?
I both envy and am happy for anyone who is just recently getting into GLs. I think I still have mild PTSD from previous stories. Now I can leave them all behind in the past and heal lol.
We rarely ever get the kind of ending GAP gave us. Hopefully, things are changing, and this is what we can expect from GLs going forward.
Great job to the whole GAP team. Thank you to Saint and Idol Factory for taking a risk on us and going all out. And of course, thank you to Freen and Becky for bringing Mon and Sam to life along with the rest of the cast.
This is from ThaiPBS. They're likely gonna tackle important social issues, be wholesome and the ENTIRE cast will bring their A-game even those with one minute of screentime. That's the type of quality ThaiPBS stands for.

He became known through a BL role. Now look at him giving back to the community. His fans must be really proud.
