An absolute perfection of a storytelling
Mind-blown. Can't believe i kept skipping this for 4 years. I blame myself for that. It's a bit rare for me to cry when a drama is over, and this was one such rare occasion. I love LOVE love this.
I've never seen a drama with each and every character with such fully fleshed out character arcs. It feels so complete and well rounded. Everyone feels human, even the villains. And when even the villain feels like a human, you just know the show is too good to be true.
Humour is organic; not forced or cringe; flows from something that will actual happen in the given situations. So, our laughs for them just comes naturally.
A true roller coaster of emotions; not just a comedy skit as i thought it was or a crying saga. Happiness, sadness, anger, embarrassment, desperation l, exhaustion, revenge, fear, ecstasy, love, contentment, each and every human emotion is there. And it feels so real, raw and natural.
I'm saying this again. Even the side characters; each and every character is woven so perfectly layered, 3d and complex, just like actual living, breathing humans. Not just morally black or white characters or just mere 2d plot devices. It's not that common and what's common for side characters is to just be plot devices for the flow of the story. But here, everyone feels like a real human. Someone that could've actually existed. So, we feel for them, we laugh when they laugh; cry when they cry. Everyone has a story to tell. We can understand them; the people. We are living with them. It's just so immersive and charming.
Such a creative reimagining of downfall of Gwanghae-gun and King Injo's revolt. This is how you accurately use creative liberty as writers when writing a historical drama. The acting is chef's kiss. The cinematography is so beautifully done. The fight scenes? Insane. So intense and crafted to perfection. I really kept skipping this because i thought it was some comedy streak with the whole man disguised as a woman saga, but this went beyond my expectations. It made the show oh so memorable. Kept me on the edge each and every minute. And the OST.s!? I have no words. Just so beautiful!
I've never done a drama review before, but this compelled me to do so. It's just that good. I have no downside to rant about, it's made to absolute perfection. I respect the team behind this. That's real talent. Perfect storytelling. Absolutely ADORE this. A ✨️masterpiece✨️, truly.
