I read it in some articles in Mandarin. When I'm obsessed about a drama, I often try to read news/articles about it, using Google translate. So of course it's highly likely that I misinterpreted what is written - hence the question mark LOL. When I find the article, I'll post it here :)

I read elsewhere that the novel's author works as a teacher. She wrote the erotica when she was at her lowest point, if I'm not mistaken? Xiao San/Chang An was inspired by her husband. I'm sure he's not amused being "exposed" in an erotica :)))

How is it better then Princess Agents? Princess Agents had an open ending that is the only disappointing thing…
Personally I prefer Bloody Romance to Princess Agents. Bloody Romance IMO has better script, character development, and higher production values -- despite coming from a tiny budget. Both have great cast though.

Apologies Lullina. The answer to your question is on ep 29 -- which just got subbed!

Not sure if this will make Team Gongzi feel better, but despite being 100% behind Wan Mei-Chang An, I find myself rooting for him. IMO he's the most interesting (and the best written) character in the drama. It helps that Wang Duo has this cool, aloof vibe. He also has the best styling, which makes him look ethereal.

Lullina, you're not the only one! I actually really like it that Chang An is shy and um, conservative :). Like I said before, I find the no-kissing refreshing and in line with the ancient norms. And that they are not doing anything will be my preference as well. But I'll be more forgiving if they did, since they have been missing each other so much and they don't know when and if they will ever meet again. This said, I'm glad they (or the writers, precisely) chose to restrain :)))

PS. Erudite's translation for the pill's name ("Lust Inhibitor") is much more appropriate!

ETA. IIRC Wan Mei found out about the Heart Burner in ep 30? I can't remember who told her - Liu Guang or Cha Luo. (Most likely Cha Luo).

Poor babies -- we need to petition for the sequel, so they can have their second chance!

I watched clips of him in "My Fair Lady" and man, did he engage in some racy kissing scenes! Now I can't look at Chang An without thinking, "Chang An, you're not that innocent." :))))

In ep 35, Wan Mei and Chang An are sitting on the bed together. What do they discuss? I'm wondering if they are thinking of, you know, consummating their love :D

Dang, just rewatched ep 27 with the English sub -- I had thought Chang An's hugging Wan Mei to say how much he…
@Lullina: totally agree with your second paragraph. I won't actually state who loves Wan Mei more, as they have different personalities and different upbringing, hence they love differently.

Chang An is a simple, humble person. He is less visionary than Gongzi (so to speak), he is more family oriented, so his initial motivation is merely to avenge for the Xie family. I doubt he has had other plans after he completes his mission - he'd probably just live quietly, farming perhaps. I think he is burdened by the new responsibility upon the disclosure of his heritage (which is actually kind of forced by Ruan Niang). Although he has the intellectual capability to lead a country, he's not passionate about it.

On the other hand, Gongzi grew up with a clear understanding of who he is and how his position will affect others. He's been so ambitious that his own mother makes him blind for their family's security. Gongzi has his aspiration & goals, and won't let even himself (let alone others) to stand in the way. It may sound evil, but he's just a typical royal/politician. In fact, I think he will be a better king/emperor than Chang An.

But when it comes to Wan Mei, judging from Wan Mei's personality, I think Chang An will be more suitable for her.

In episode 25 there are some of the most heartwrenching dialogues between Wan Mei and Chang An . (Not that there is shortage of it :p). I took a screenshot of one in particular https://kisskh.at/photos/KAyyq. Wan Mei confronts Chang An about what Gongzi has insinuated: that Chang An didn't keep his promise to protect him. After rewatching the scene with English sub, I realize that Wan Mei actually knows Gongzi didn't tell her the truth, but she wants Chang An to tell her out loud. And as the dialogue later shows us, she expresses her disappointment that Chang An doesn't totally open up to her, prompting her to question how much she really means to him.

Misunderstanding between couples due to lack of communication is a classic drama trope. I read a lot of comments showing frustration at WanMei-ChangAn, especially Chang An. At first I felt the same and I kinda hated the scriptwriters for inserting such a cliche. But later I see it differently. The dialogue here and in another episode in which Wan Mei specifically tells Chang An that they need to avoid misunderstanding by talking, shows me that the writers knew what they were, well, writing :D. It addresses the cliche and one of the couple does try to build communication. On the other hand, Chang An is actually a typical old-fashioned Asian male -- they don't talk about their problems at home.

Don't watch this drama for romance because the most you can get out of it is probably like 3 hugs
I actually like the lack of kisses. Kissing in period Asian dramas has been my pet peeve, because IMO they don't really suit the ancient norms.

Lullina, I'm with you. I was disappointed with Cha Luo - Wan Mei final fight, because -- as you said -- it should've been the grand fight. It's much more intense when Cha Luo fights off the army, and you can see how powerful she is.

The site where I usually watch Bloody Romance raw eps has uploaded the last 3 episodes fast so I couldn't help it -- watched all three this morning! (I don't know if they are the ones aired, as I remember Erudite told us that often what streaming sites broadcast aren't really the final product that is officially aired in Youku).

Anyway, I must confess that I peeked in here before I watched ep 34 & saw the spoilers about some parts of the ending. I went through anyway & after I finished them all I found it was not as bad ending as I had thought. In fact, it was rather hopeful -- if Chang An's body disappeared chances are he might still be alive. And as he mentioned before, shadows are trained to withstand torture. Although I didn't catch the part where he transfers his inner energy to Wan Mei.

Thank you very much Erudite for the details. This is a bittersweet ending, although an open one -- and a hopeful one. Thanks to you again for guiding us through this exciting journey of Wan Mei, Chang An, and Ning Wang. In the end, I see Bloody Romance as a quite feministic drama. Though Wan Mei is very Mary Sue, but the story is about her personal growth. I personally am in awe with Li Yitong's range throughout the drama.

What disappoints me is not the ending, but the very choppy editing of the last episodes. I hope they manage to fix them so the latest version streamed in Viki and broadcast in the 13 countries will be a better one. I still intend to rewatch the drama with better English subtitles! :D

I've read about the producer's wish to have a sequel. At this point I'm not too optimistic, mainly due to the financial issue. I really really wish they'll get investors to finance the project. On the other hand, I'm also afraid that if they get the funding, it might affect the creative work as we can see in too many Mainland dramas and the final product will not be as gratifying as this one (flaws aside).

Same here! Where I live is 4-5 hours ahead of Beijing, and I don't have Youku VIP account. So I will have to wait until Thursday night here to see the final 3 episodes, since my workload won't allow me to watch even during lunch break at work. I'm anxious and giddy. I know I'd probably not be able to resist peeking at kisskh to find spoilers of the finale! :D
