Thanks for reminding me about the advice from Shin Han-soo and the fact that Ban-seok was actually looking to leave Hanmyeong after his confrontation with Ja-young. I interpreted that scene as Ban-seok thinking he had no chance of finding another job and hence had no choice but to stick to Hanmyeong. But your interpretation makes sense too. Though I'm not sure whether his tech in the Hanmyeong dishwasher would beef up his resume that much. Shin Han-soo said something about 3 years' experience and qualifications in Linux etc. At that point, Ban-seok knew that Hanmyeong was going to be sold in 3 weeks' time.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I just remember Han Seung-ki yelling at the subordinate at HQ (Mr Seo I think) who begged him to spend the estimated $3m on implementing Ban-seok's tech instead of keeping things quiet. The subordinate was making the arguments that you've made and which i agree with (i.e. that defect, if discovered, will lead to more severe losses), but Han Seung-ki was insisting that the money Baekho would pay them would more than compensate for the losses. I hope he will follow his subordinate's advice eventually.

Of course using the tech is the best and most logical solution, but that isn't how big business thinks. Otherwise we wouldn't have companies like, say, Walmart or Amazon risking the health of its workers, or oil companies merrily polluting rivers and whatever. Lawsuits are all in a day's work for them. Hanmyeong is no Amazon, but even then it's possible that it can afford to be sued by Baekho, a smaller company.
I don't think Hanmyeong is necessarily going to make the fix just because they have asked Ban-seok to get it ready in a week. It doesn't cost much to have get your existing staff to get the tech ready. Still, I hope they do the right thing.
While I don't think Ban-seok could have got Hanmyeong to give him a better deal, I agree that he should have just taken his technology and buggered off to another company. I dunno. He has been backstabbed by Han Se-gwon, and unfairly transferred to HR. He knew he was going to be made redundant eventually, and was even making elaborate preparations to change companies/careers. Yet he still couldn't accept the defective dishwasher. Maybe that's what 23 years at the same company does to you...
I don't get why Choi Ban Seok is not negotiating and getting himself more from that detecting system? He could…
I don't think the tech is that valuable to Hanmyeong, simply because they are likely to decide that a cover-up is more profitable than a fix. And it isn't just Ja-young's boss who thinks so - even the president, after seeing Ban-seok's tech, said they should just sell the dishwashers to Baekho without doing anything about the defect. We don't know whether he reconsidered his decision, but it's not a good sign that the voluntary resignation thing is starting even though Ban-seok and Shin Han-soo are in the middle of working on the new tech.
I think Ban-seok is perfectly aware of how insignificant his tech is, compared to big business decisions. Even though he had a solution, he told Ja-young that they might have to "blackmail" Hanmyeong to do something about the defect, i.e. threaten to spill the beans to Baekho or the public. I assume he decided to offer Hanmyeong his tech, not because he wanted to save the company per se, but because (1) it might give his colleagues, especially the dishwater team, a better chance of surviving there; and (2) as an engineer associated with Hanmyeong, he just couldn't endure the idea of a defective product out there.
Hi it has come to my attention that the subber on tumblr thinks that my post below is critical of her subs. I am sorry if i hadn't been sufficiently clear but i thought i was saying that the tumblr subs were better: snappier as in more concise and clearer, and more colloquial as in more accessible. The subscene subs, on the other hand, i criticised as clunky. My preference for the latter is entirely subjective, because i recognise its relative prolixity and clumsiness. I hope this makes my previous post clearer, and apologies if my message didnt get across properly.
There is only ONE subber, and that is https://kinounaniresource.tumblr.com/The people at subscene probably just…
I’ve stuck to the subscene subs (S) because I started with those, but I’d have been perfectly happy with the tumblr ones (T) too. Because S is (I think) a translation of the Japanese subs while T is probably being translated by ear, S seems more detailed and formal - and tbh a bit clunky sometimes. T is definitely snappier and more colloquial. But I prefer S marginally, because IMO it’s more true to the age, background, etc of the mostly middle-aged characters. But that’s a completely subjective and non-expert opinion!

But I've actually looked at both sets and they're definitely different: (i) The words and timing of the subs are very different (ii) The subscene files are .srt while the tumblr ones are .ass (iii) The subscene files are always uploaded earlier than the tumblr ones. In fact ep11 is already up at subscene, but not on the tumblr account.

Both are good, IMO. I only wish all J-dramas were subbed as clearly and quickly.
