Just finished this drama. I did skipped through most parts tbh. I felt the ML have always had a special feeling towards the FL back from when they were young. I guessed bc she was the only one that hangs around with him (even though she was a spoilt brat at the time and bosses him around for the most part, which he willingly do bc it makes her happy). FFW to when they reunite, she doesn’t remember him but he’s instinctively always wants to protect her. I wouldn’t say ML “all of a sudden” fell in love with FL after finding out they’re not blood related bc the feelings was there & it just became more apparent as they spend more time together & knowing they’re not related allows him to realise the actual feeling he has for her. I hope I’m making sense ☺️ tbh, I like the 2ML 😂 ruthless, ambitious, yet very persistent & obsessed when it comes to love. I dont know if I would use the word ‘toxic’ on him bc I dont think he was ever physically/verbally abusive towards FL. I agree he does instill fear in her bc she thought he’d order the kill, but otherwise I’d say he’s just basically obsessed with wanting to go back to the way they were (& to show her he’d kept to his promise to her - learning the paper art, carving wooden dolls, preparing the bridal chamber 🥹.) The actor actually did a very good job with his portrayal of the 2ML character 👏
Some of the comments in this post are a bit off topic. I started this drama bc of HMH - I was suffering from w/drawal after watching BFTB 😂 - and this drama didnt disappoint, however, some of the reviewers here has such ridiculously high expectations that it’s like they themselves can direct better or write a better script 😂 😂 I think everyone should just watch and judge for themselves bc you can always drop it if you dont feel like it’s your type of drama.
OMG the filler in the middle (where FL is in self denial) is getting very draggy….to the point of annoyance!!! Saving grace = Hou Ming Hao is so good looking - esp when he’s in the black & blue costume
In my personal opinion, if you’re not into Republican Era dramas then you shouldn’t watch it because no doubt there’s going to either a bit or a lot of propaganda, hence why there’s always romance added to create interest.
I think the poor editing is the major factor about this drama. Originally, 50 episodes were filmed, director cut it to 40 then 35, hence why there are plot holes. Judging on how it ended (the actual scene itself) I dont feel it was the intended ending for this drama. But it is what it is.
This drama mostly centres around the FL’s life, how she went from a princess to a commoner then becoming a general’s wife. She is very naive in how she views the world as her world were within the walls of the prince’s mansion only. Growing up she sees how princes/princesses who grew up without their birth mother - life within those walls are quite difficult as survival rate are low for these children, which was what had inspired her to become a doctor.
So her nativity in thinking she can save the world one person at a time during the chaotic republican era seems laughable to some & others would call her ‘stupid’.
Everybody has different opinions -that’s just my 2 cents
The script for this drama is COMPLETELY different to the actual novel. The Wu family & JJ does not exist. I can see why pple are ‘annoyed’ with the main female lead in the drama as reasons for her actions are in unjustifiable. However in the novel, it does make sense bc she is married to Burigude and she did loved him & I mean really loved him, hence she’s unable to accept Young Marshal’s advances (at the beginning). The Zheng Nan in the novel is much more ruthless than the one portrayed in the drama (nothing against Zhang He’s acting, I think he is very handsome as Young Marshal😍)Let’s see how this drama ends
