At episode 4 right now and spotted some inconsistencies : - The grandfather makes a gay joke, but we then learn that Tae Moo and Sung Hoon are "brothers". Isn't that a bit weird just for the sake of jokes? - Sung Hoon tells Young Seo that they can't be friends because of what she did to Tae Moo, but then later on at M restaurant she doesn't recognize him?
I honestly have no idea why MDL users are saying this show was mediocre. are you guys too used to romcoms? Out of all the kdramas that I've watched none have come close to the impact this show had. It was absolutely devastating a true show about moral dilemma. This is what we need nowadays. Shows that push human boundaries and portrays the duality of men. Of course the concept of duality is shown in a lot of shows, but the execution and delivery of Squid Games absolutely blew me away. Some things were very predictable like the squid game being one of the games and Gi-Hun plays it, the mains characters would last the longest and the old man being the mastermind. We know there is only gonna be one winner. So the fact that the main characters made it far was obvious. It's how their death plays out that is devastating. It doesn't matter the little development the characters had. What matters is that they all risk dying which in turn reveals who each person truly is. The stakes were already made clear in episode 1. It is certainly not a perfect show, but it fresh and different from recent kdramas and deserves all the praise it gets.
I agree..i think instead of the love triangle plot, the writer should have just given more screen time to the…
I think if they gave more time to the deity, it would've complicated things more than it already is in a philosophical way and some people already don't like this aspect of the show. I have no problem with all this philosophy. It just needs to go somewhere because there is not much at stake since they already presented Dong Kyung's eventual death at the beginning. Even with all the contract shenanigan going on, I still don't feel weight of the situation. The supporting characters could also play a much bigger role in the spiritual side of the drama and that would make the show much more interesting, but somehow they are completely excluded and are only there to support Dong Kyung when the writers are mainly trying to build the lead couple. I don't know if you guys have watched it but I compared this show to the American series Lucifer and yes of course Lucifer has more seasons, but the way the writers utilize the cast with the spiritual side is funny, clever and credible and every character has a purpose, while this drama could've took that path if not for all the fillers and the love triangle. They present an ultimatum to Dong Kyung but then it gets shifted out of focus for the love triangle until then end of episode 11 where she is presented with another ultimatum. So I hope it does get more exciting and serious.
The issue with this drama is that it's hard to like the supporting characters, well the love triangle. The writers structured the plot in a way that completely separates the main couple from the love triangle. So it's like two worlds apart and for that I find myself skipping all their scenes. I'm on episode 11 and because of Doom's nature, I don't think he will ever really interact with the supporting characters and that kinda makes them superficial in the grand scheme of things. We don't even get that much scenes with Donk Kyung and Ji Na to show their fabulous friendship, more or less with Team leader Cha. So I don't expect to care for these characters. The fact that the love triangle is a separate entity from the main couple just makes it look like there's two stories in one drama when it's supposed to be only one interwoven plot.
NDS lies way too much it's so selfish. I hate it. I like the actor and i was rooting for him but wow his character made me change my mind real quick. I'm trying to find reasons to like him.
