I didn't like the trailer and the cast does look too mature for the story being told, but I'm going to watch this regardless. I watched (most) of the drama first, but quit when it veered off course into nonsensical kdrama makjang territory and, unfortunately, wasn't fully satisfied with how the webtoon ended either.
Still, at the very least I hope this is more true to the webtoon characters than the drama was. I'd like Seol to gets her spirited, lively, and sometimes angry sides back; Jung his goofy, childish sides; Inha her cool, scary, and cold sides; and Inho his rough, aggressive, and generally complicated sides. It's not like I hated how the drama actors interpreted their characters but I found them less typical and more interesting in the webtoon. Looking back, it feels a bit like they were ironed out to fit better into kdrama tropes.
Wait, that's it? Oh no... I need another season, a 2-hour special, or even one additional episode. I really feel like I've been played. How is that it!?
I've seen 2 movies with him in it. And after those two, I can honestly say, that he doesn't deserve to…
I agree about Heroine Disqualified. I know he was playing the serious, broody type, but that doesn't mean your emotions have to be flat to nonexistent. Seeing how he interpreted that character just convinced me that he wouldn't do a good job in Orange, Your Lie in April, or Wolf Girl and the Black Prince, three adaptations that I would have looked forward to otherwise. Maybe I'll give him another chance some time in the future, but right now I find his presence off-putting.
I avoid everything with Kento too. Not because he's done anything, but because he was being cast in so many manga adaptations (with each character being wildly different) and seeing his name all the time started to annoy me. I did accidentally stumble on of his movies because I wanted to watch Kentaro and it didn't feel like I was missing out after watching his acting.
Since historical dramas always end tragically, is she going to save the king again and die this time or is the king going to kill her while in a rage after the assassination attempt or is she going to kill herself to prove her loyalty and faithfulness? I predict one of the three.
Sometimes I miss the humor of the Korean one, but there are a lot of things to like here too.
1. The male lead feels more consistent. While I loved Park Seo-joon's portrayal sometimes it was hard to reconcile his various personalities (at the office, with the fake female lead vs the real one etc.).
2. I can more easily see how the female lead turned into the person that she is (someone I actually really like so far and I hope she doesn't lose all of her strangeness and overall good personality when she discovers a flat iron + gets what she wants) which was sometimes difficult in the original.
3. The relationship between Hui Zhen and Yi Mu somehow feels more balanced. The dynamic is still the same with him relentlessly teasing and her reacting, but she seems like more of a participant. She backtalks a lot more and generally sassier. It's great, but I also hate it because it makes me more invested in their relationship and Yi Mu (who's awesome down to his clothes).
Since they have more episodes I really hope they change the ending a bit. I was not completely satisfied last time.
Based on the first week, I’m going to try and stick it out. At the very least it will be interesting to…
Having watched the second week, it seems your wish won't be coming true. It's a shame. I've never understood the point of remakes that are straight copies of the original. I'll continue for the reasons stated in my original comment, but it really does feel like a missed opportunity. Oh well. At least it introduced me to a couple of new actors.
Based on the first week, I’m going to try and stick it out. At the very least it will be interesting to compare the two as so far the remake is staying very close to the original, but still inspiring different reactions within me. I remember wanting to strangle Hye-jin in the first couple of weeks of the original for being obnoxiously OTT and loud. Here we have similar actions but the actress is playing her more awkward, nervous, and, most importantly, quiet so I have some sympathy even while agreeing with the criticisms she’s receiving.
I’m curious about how they’ll handle next week as this is where the story and characters really started picking up for me in the kdrama. HJE, PSJ, and Siwon had great chemistry in their varying combinations and really shined in comedic scenes (when they weren’t going overboard) and I absolutely loved the secondary couple.
Finished episode 3 and I'm just loving this drama more and more every week. I won't lie...I totally…
I've seen comments about Hiramasa, but nothing negative. He is different as a lead, but I too find him refreshing so far. I guess I could see people questioning because he's not exactly a character that inspires passion the way we expect in romcoms. But there are many different kinds of people in this world and many different types of love. I would be happy if the show stayed on the path of a more comfortable and steady sort. It's just as worthy of aspiring to as a passionate love.

I was happy when she said that too. Also that Hiramasa knew that he was behaving unfairly and that his reactions were uncalled for even though he still struggled to control them. I don't understand Kazami's character yet, but I don't see him as a total player. With that woman at the restaurant his words were unnecessarily harsh, but true. There's no reason to commit to something or someone you could do without. It's better to be upfront about that than to string her along the way some way some men do. I just wish he'd let her down nicely.
It would have been amazing and refreshing if these two charming fools, with their unwavering faith in each other, had stuck together through this too. If they'd chosen not to believe in Bok Nam's death without absolute proof because, well, at one point everyone thought Louis was dead, but that turned out to be untrue, so why can't it be the same for Bok Nam. Simple logic that others might laugh at, but that suits the two of them and their personalities.
Blah! I hate the angst the portion in dramas. It's like crawling through filler and the leads frequently take a giant steps backwards during it. The preempted episode isn't helping matters either.
The melodrama tag is making me sad. I want this to be light, ridiculous, and sort of dumb (with just a light layer of sadness and heart) to the very end.
He looks like Seo Kang Joon seriouslyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I don't see a striking resemblance either. I sort of get why others do and if I saw rough sketches of them both I wouldn't deny similarities, but those are lost the moment you start filling in details. They also have completely different auras to me. Actually, when I first saw Kentaro he reminded me of Lee Dong Wook -- probably because of their jawlines. If anything I'd say he's somewhere between the two.
I really, really hope this lightens back up - that they abandon the doom and gloom. That said, episode 11 was…
Same. I want my lighthearted, heartfelt comedy back and have tentative plans to stock up 12-14 until we get there, but I can't deny that episode 11 was one of my favorites. Despite all of the sad things happening the episode somehow still felt light not gloomy and it's complete rewatchable. The writer impressed me with that. And the duckling walk is <333
